So, I basically took the idea behind a custom shop Rodent Solution I obtained awhile back, and added it to the new Rodent Trail. I asked for an enlarged choil and to have the forward section of the grip area thinned down a bit. Full-flat satin grind. Swamp colored G10, of course, with white liners.

I confess, 4 months in the making and I couldn't wait to see her when she landed at home today. I'm out on business travel and won't be home for a week. My wife actually called to tell me it landed.

I don't know if I should worry, but wifey was surprisingly willing to open this package and take a couple quick phone pics for me. Hmm...

Anyway, without further adieu, I give you my Swamp Rat Custom Shop Rodent Trail. I dub thee "Trail Skinner". :D

My wife commented how nice the balance was, and how sharp it came from the factory (and she knows what I consider sharp). GREAT JOB GUYS!!! I can't wait to fondle her!

I suspect this design is going to ROCK in the field! I promise better pictures when I get home! Feel free to ask the shop for copies of this design! ;)

Very Nice !! I was looking at mine the other day, and I was thinking it needed exactly this.:cool::thumbup:

I think that custom mod made the RT even better.
Do you plan on using that one?

Definitely going to use this one!!! Oh yeah!!! :D

Whoof! Me like! Especially those scales. :)

Like many things that are an acquired taste, those green/orange scales are one of them for me. I want them on my Chopwieler!

I wasn't sure about the green/orange when I ordered, but told myself I had to do them on my first "custom" custom shop order. My wife thought I was crazy, but upon seeing them, she says the colors strangely work together and the green isn't quite the shade that she was expecting.

The combo has grown on me too, and I think it turned out AWESOME!!!

:thumbup:That looks like it's gonna feel real good in the hand. I like the Swamp colors too!:)

Glad you like it. To bad that you are out of town and can't fondle it. I will tell you that it felt great in the hand. ;)

OK, this knife is freakin AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! :D  Also, this particular knife is easily the sharpest Bussekin I've ever received! No need for any touch-up before first use. Thanks David!

Ergos are excellent, and I really, really, really like the blade shape. Even though the liners only add 0.040" per side, to my hand it makes a HUGE difference in feel from the standard handle thickness.

Here's some comparison shots with a standard Rodent Solution, and the Custom Shop variant that gave me this idea. I took some measurements of blade and handle thickness, but I can't seem to figure out where I put them since I'm pretty tired just now. I'll edit the post tomorrow.

Trail_Compare1.jpg

The thicknesses are as follows:

Rodent Solution - 0.185" blade, 0.689" handle
Trail Skinner - 0.169" blade, 0.761" handle
Custom Shop RS - 0.186" blade, 0.714" handle

This shows that had I not added the liners (0.080"), the Trail Skinner would have had the thinnest handle (at 0.681"), so I'm REALLY glad I did!!! :D

Notice the distal taper?

Enjoy!
