How does the Busse custom shop work? Is it customs of current production knives or totally custom knives? I am looking to have a knife designed to match my harley im thinking a NMFLHX. Its kind of a creators imagination type of thing where i could just send in a picture of my bike and let their imagination run freely with it. is that the kind of thing the custom shop would do or would i be better to contact a custom knife maker? i know i should probably just call the shop and talk with them but i figured they have been really busy getting ready for KC this weekend.

IMO it would probably be 5 times cheaper to get a custom knife from a different maker. You will not get the toughness of a Busse, but can get a pretty good preforming blade depending on blade geometry, size, .... But You could probably get a custom knife with mirror polish blade or something,..(up to you) and custom handles to match the bike for around $350. If you get a knife from BUsse its $100 per inch, plus the handles to match your bike would be extra. (I'm thinking something with a 7 inch blade). I've contacted many custom knife makers in the past, and could get a knife with pretty much any kind of steel and handle material I wanted (besides weird stuff like giraffe bone, or dinosaur turd) you know like micrata, g10 or carbon fiber, or stabilized wood, and was never quoted more than $400. I imagine a 7 inch knife from Busse plus handles would run you double that easy.

Oh, and also as far I have seen, Busse cannot give you a definite time on completion or your custom order, so you might wait a year to get it. I understand why they have to do this, (stop production of regular knives just for you,) but personally I would go crazy if I waited a year. Most custom knife manufacturers have quoted me 1-2 months. So bottom line, IMO If you go with a different knife maker, you could have endless options for your knife, with half the cost of a custom Busse, with 5 times faster production time, BUT if you want the same knife to be one of the toughest out there AND you dont mind the wait, you might go with Busse. Thats, just my .02

They are unlikely to make some kind of harley-themed fantasy knife, but you could probably get something that would have similar color(s). Most custom shop knives I have seen are taken from existing patterns.

Something in a satin finish with red and black g10 handles that you could mount near the instrument cluster or on your tank would be cool as hell. Tough call as to what knife, though.

thats exactly what im thinking as my red and black ams handles look good with it. and as captain picard said probably about a 7' blade maybe something that matches the wheels.
