Most of you older Hogs will know the score about what i'm going to ask but I thought I would ask here rather than call the Shop and slow down production with all my questions.

I am not looking for anyone to tell me what exactly they paid i'm just asking for general info so I can get some things in my head straight before I put an order in.

So here goes:

1) Are custom orders priced at roughly $100/inch?
2) If you simply want an existing style of blade modified is that cheaper?
3) If so are all styles always available or is it luck of the draw?
4) How long is the wait time, '2 weeks' or a year plus?
5) Adding swedges, serrations, changing blade coatings etc what's the price and time investment likely to be?

Got more questions in my head so any and all info you have will be greatly recieved.

If any of these questions are out of keeping with what should be discussed about Busse business then poke me and I will remove or alter this thread immediately.

1) Are custom orders priced at roughly $100/inch?
depends on what your getting. for standard stuff, yes, with diminishing returns on smaller and larger work. a 4" knife will likely cost between 575-600$, a 7" knife will cost between 650-750$. a moab with a 12" blade is 1,600-1,800 (I can't remember the exact price). [edit to add] it also depends on what your adding to the knife, if your getting a basic handle with a basic full flat ground blade, then the numbers i have here are rough estimates. if your getting nuclear top edges, crazy flown handles, top and bottom serrations, harpoon tip with custom swedge positioning - all of these features will add to the final price. example: a moab costs 1,800$. a moab with a round pommel, nuclear top edge, recurved serrated main edge AND a blade catch might cost 2,600, depending on if jerry even wants to take the project on. and the moab is one of the only "standard customs" where you can just order it without sending in your custom sketch. if you send in a totally custom knife thats the size of a moab, you can expect 2,000+. chucks machete was 3,000+, but that thing is considerably larger then a moab...

2) If you simply want an existing style of blade modified is that cheaper?
only if they have the knife in stock, at which point its a custom variant modification rather then a pure custom. however, if the knife blank isn't in stock, they will have to grind it from scratch wich makes it a full custom.

3) If so are all styles always available or is it luck of the draw?
for current models of knives, probably. for older stuff like 3rd gen sj's, total luck of the draw.

4) How long is the wait time, '2 weeks' or a year plus?
I'm on year two, and I don't exect to see my customs for 6-12 months from now. My reasonable wait time expectations are 4 years total. anything over that and I'm going to be asking why it's taken so long, and if the answer is "shop overload", i'll continue to wait.

5) Adding swedges, serrations, changing blade coatings etc what's the price and time investment likely to be?
I have no idea. I know several people have done swedges and coating removals and such, but I haven't seen any prices posted. i'd imagine between 50-150$ per modification.

Cheers for the info guys.

Been thinking of playing around with a FFBM, maybe some serrations or a big swedge or even both! Got a chance to come to the US in September so thought if I ordered soon then with a bit of luck I would be able to score my own Nuke BM.

RoyalM, you could just send it to Ban, he does wicked swedge's, and I am sure he could do serrations, but then again, his wait time is also not likely 2+ years (yet).
Or you could have another maker do it. My first Busse is a FBMLE with smoothed handles, and an unsharpened top clip, done by Bill Siegle

of course then it would not be a custom done by the custom shop.

I had seen a few people on here do custom work, like Soup, Ban and I think I remember Bill Sigle (should that be Siegle?). Was thinking i'm probably a bit new to the forum to go that way and if I go to the shop then I might be able to buy a customized War Boar from them.

It's all dependent on next weekends ganzaa listings and possible bill though. Just waiting on the shopping list now.

Being new doesn't matter.

I have several Busse's customized by Ban, he's a stand up guy. You shouldn't have any problems if you make sure the knife and payment make it safely to his shop.

I haven't dealt with the other two but if they have a good reputation on the forum, have no fear.

One thing I would probably wait for the custom shop to do is serrations. They seem to get them nice and even but I have never seen what Ban can do for serrations.

If you are worried about your warranty, that's a valid concern. I've never had any quality issues so I don't worry about it.
