Custom shoppe 501's inbound

Was talking to my Dad yesterday and the topic of knives came up. Dad mentioned that he is needing to replace his current EDC and was thinking about a Buck Squire. I told him to hold off getting one and I'd see what I could do. Went on the Buck site last night and ordered two 501's from the Custom Shoppe, one with oak and one with walnut. Both with rivets and S30v steel. Was going to go with Elk but figured since it was to be a user one of the woods would work out better and IMHO this is a fairly inexpensive way to get Dad acquainted with S30v. My plan is to see which one of the two looks the best and that one will go to Dad. The other will become my EDC.

Was wondering if anyone had any pics of this model from the custom shoppe in Walnut or oak and if so could you post them please? TIA Also do these ship with a sheath?

...Also do these ship with a sheath?

Call 'em and ask, but I don't think that they do. The good news is that you can get a nice leather sheath for the 501 through Buck Stuff for $5.20 if you haven't used your 2 sheath discounts for this year, yet.

Thanks. I know Dad won't use a sheath but didn't know if they came with one or not. On Bucks website it seems to indicate that the standard 501 comes with a black leather sheath so didn't know about the custom models.

The last stock 501 I bought did come with a nice leather belt sheath. I have not bought any of the CS 501's though.

You & Stump are right about the stock 501s. I got one also.

I was on the phone with #1 son when I read your OP. I knew he had purchased a 501 from the CS, so I asked him. His exact reply was, "Uhhhhhhh, I don't think so. And least I don't remember getting one." Added to that, the fact that the CS does not specifically state that it does come with a sheath leaves me to doubt that it does, but I am not sure. And the only way to know for sure (unless someone posts who has bought a CS 501 recently) is to call 'em up and ask. They are really great people to talk to over the phone and have done a good job answering my questions in the past. I think it is "Janet" that handles the CS orders.

Boy oh boy did this thread tempt me but a 501 with S30V and stag scales was a whopping $173! I bought a stock Duke instead. ;)

Update: Received both knives yesterday and am very pleased. Fit and finish is excellent. I've decided to gift the walnut to my father and keep the oak for myself. Neither one came with a sheath.

Looking forward to seeing them. I don't have any 500 series yet but have often admired those custom shop ones.

Finally got around to taking some photos. Here's the walnut followed by the oak.

Nice!
I sent mine back to buck to have a few tweaks done to it. Here is the one I just picked up in the mean time.

Those look awesome Badhammer!

I am real close to pulling the trigger on one myself.

**Update**

Pulled the trigger on a oak s30v 501!
