Would anyone like to have a more minimalist leather sheath option? I would like something less bulky just for protection, not even for belt carry:

Less obtrusive stitching with a smaller or internal flange area, or
One-side stitching like the older tan model
Smaller flap (just wide enough for the pocket area, not overhanging on the sides)
No snap, maybe a piece of leather accross the front for the flap to tuck into, or even velcro.

Imagine the old Leatherman sheaths. Just barely big enough for the job.

I definitely think we need some more options on sheaths without having to go to a custom sheath maker. . We have just been at the mercy of what happened to come with ours.

Here's what I want: A tan 110 leather sheath with horizontal carry capability like the Alpha Folder model 276 sheath.

It looks like he does good work. I just put a bid in on the one with the Marine Corps Eagle, Globe & Anchor.

I just received my Alaskan series S30V 110's a while ago. Like the ones I have ordered from the Custom shop, I ordered these or they just came with, the brown sheath made like the normal black 110 sheath.

The brown sheath is a bit tighter than a black sheath. I tried the same knife in and out of a new black and the brown sheaths.

However, I do believe they will loosen up fairly quickly. These wern't so tight that I couldn't get the knife in and out of fairly easily. Could be the newer ones are tighter.

I was a bit dissapointed that the tang stamp on these was 2004. I expected the Idaho. So Cabelas must have had a truck load of these made up.

And, a buddy of mine is looking at the possibility of modifying a 110 sheath for horizontal carry like my alpha folder sheath. He does some good leather work. Will let you know if he accomplishes anything.

I really like the Brown sheaths. Will be glad to swap black ones for brown ones. :D

Oh Yeah, Last Confederate, my addiction continues. In addition to the two S30V 110's I got a couple of Vanguards in S30V. A wood handled and a rubber handled. The Rubber handle is goig to be a user, as are the 110's. Don't know about that wood one as yet... sure is pretty

The Cabela's 110 I received last year had no date stamp or any reference to Buck on the blade at all. The tang was completely blank. The only marking on the blade was the normal BOS S30V marking on the reverse side of the tang.

Thats interesting Mike. Someone must have complained. These have a very bold tang stamp
Buck 110 inverted T and USA in its normal place. Reverse side has the flaming BOS S30V and USA
Blade of course has the etched Alaska guide logo.

Like I said, they both have the Brown leather sheath, as did the Vanguard. All the sheaths have the Alaskan Guide logo embossed in the leather. On the 110's Its where the BUCK is normally embossed.
There is no BUCK embossed into the leather, but still on the snap, and 110 is still there on the bottom backside.

Vanguard does have the Idaho tang stamp along with the same BUCK 192 and USA and the flaming BOS and S30V on the reverse side. Vanguard sheath has 191 instead of 192.

I think the blackened (more of a really dark gray?) blade is way cool looking. The 110's are more Darkish gray and the Vanguard more black.

interesting stuff....

Carl, I apologize if I have drifted your thread too far off course.

LFH,
Another variation has to do with the sheath. Mine, while the traditional style, like the Buck black leather sheaths, is maroon with the Cabela's emblem on the front flap.

Maroon is a better descriptor for these also. Definttely more marroon than the brown one I posted the pic of. is your emblem Cabelas or Alaska Guide with what looks like a ram.

It's the Alaskan Guide emblem

I think that's a great idea to have different sheath options. I like open top (flapless) sheaths. I've made a couple of this type to carry my 110's. The pic is a what I like to carry mine in. I've made them in vertical and horizonal carry configurations. I don't make these as a saleable item so this isn't an ad. Just thought I'd share the type sheath I use.

Not leather but I really like the low hanging top opening pouch that came with the old Bucklite 422.

While everyone is disucssing sheaths, Ron Ryder has a neat idea for folders smaller that 110's he calls it a Buckaroo, good name, and it is a leather pouch with a strap and loop for your belt. Great for slacks, hangs the knife in upper pants pocket on outside of leg. No more "knife bulge" on front of leg. See his website for pic: www.cuttersandcolletors.com. Just ordered a couple of the Buck club pouches in the newsletter for my own experiments with leather braiding of strap and loop. PS I have no personal gain from his sales, I paid full price for the one I got.

Those are cool. I would like one for a 110 that hangs the knife just short of the bottom of my pocket.

You will have to INSERT the missing "c" in "collectors".
