Hey guys, I'll explain the situation:
As many in here I'm a knife nut and I'm getting married this year,
my awesome fiance wants to make me a very special engagement present.
So, I really like small jack patterns between 3 and 3,5 inches closed, barlow or tear drop jack or somethin like that but I want a user, nothing fancy. Just a unique knife that can be always in my pocket. The budget is about 300$ maximum.
I've been looking a lot into this subforum and the knifemaker one, but I don't have anything clear in my mind and really could use a little of your help.
Who among the great amount of fabolous knifemakers out there could do what I want?
If you consider not correct this cuestion, I hope you forgive me because I'm pretty lost here, I know what I want but I don't own any custom slipjoint and don't know where to start looking.
thank you very much.

Most of the more prolific makers on BF have their own threads showcasing their work. I would start working my way through those threads.

In the price range you're looking at, I would take a look at Mike Alsdorf or John Lloyd, they both make fantastic knives and their waiting lists are relatively short.

Your price is probably at the low end of the range for someone like Rick Menefee or Bret Dowell, but they are among the best out there. However, you need to be prepared to wait at least a year.

Joe Allen might be able to help you and he makes a heck of a nice knife.

I think the biggest problem with your query is the time frame. Depending on your wedding date it might not be possible to have a custom knife built in time. Definitely do your research, but be decisive about it. The sooner you get your order in the better.

I was thinking Joe Allen also. I have a couple of his knives and they are fantastic

I am just a few weeks out from my Alsdorf knife - its a 3 1/8th tear drop jack, sounds exactly like what you are looking for! in the exact price range..

and his wait time is more than reasonable and way less than a year...

(you don't have to go as fancy as the one i posted in the picture, his canvas micarta scales are awesome too!)

here is an example i took from his website

All knife maker suggested are great and there are more talented ones. I have two examples of a Barlow by Ken Coats and Teardrop Jack by Mike Alsdorf you might find suitable for you.
