Custom Slip Joints

Honestly there are 100 custom slipjoint makers out there and it would be great if there was a consolidated list on here, but there's not. I know somebody has one thought because I've seen it.

If you're looking for a top 10 list or similar, I would point you to a post made by Gus (one of our great mods) several years ago. I found this thread when I first got on BF and hoped that I could pin down a knife from each maker on his list. Since that post (2005 I think), several other great sloppy makers (Menefee for instance) have frequented this forum...so the list isn't inclusive of them.

Check out post #19 in the link

I've been trying to make a list every time I open a thread about custom slip joints.

I'm not sure how accurate or inclusive this list is, as I am still looking into all these makers - maybe it will help.

In no particular order:

PJ Tomes (may be retired)
Keary Hampton
Eugene Shadley
Joel Chamblin
Jerry Halfrich
Tony / Reese Bose
Enrique Pena
Dan Burke
Bruce Bump
Brent Cramer
Brett Dowell
Rick Menefee
Ray Cover Sr
Ken Erickson
Hiroaki Ohta
Ray Smith
Ken Coates
Keith Johnson
Todd Davidson
Gene Wiseman

Hi Campbell,

I,m sure you meant to say "great slippy makers" :D

There perhaps are a few "sloppy" makers out there but none on this forum and certainly not Rick !!
(yeah, I know - it was just a "slip of the tongue" or should that be keyboard ;) )

Colin.

I probably should have been more specific in I'm looking for traditional designs much like the Tony Bose Case limited knives (e.g. coffin jack, norfolk etc.).

I may be mistaken but I believe that all of the makers in the list that Toyz posted fall under this catagory.

They are all traditional knife makers. If you were to put together a list of all custom makers (all genres), it would be 1000 names long

I would certainly have to add John Howser to that list of traditional slipjoint makers. He's a wonderful guy and a great craftsman as well.

I think it's PJ Tomes, not RJ Tomes. There are a few collaborations out there, notably the Case Tony Bose collaborations, both 154CM/ATS34 and CV/SS. I really like the Queen Dan Burke collaborations. I think there were a few GEC collaborations also. I have seen a few Queen Joe Pardue collaborations also.

Arizon Custom Knives has a large list of knife makers and I believe you can narrow the list down to slip joint makers. I mostly just go on there to window shop but I always check out the guys that are active here on the forums.

A few more off the top of my head: Ryuichi Kawamura, Tom Overeynder, Richard Rogers, Bill Ruple and others.

Lets not forget Mastersmith Bailey Bradshaw, one of my favorite custom makers.
