I just got one. Mine is a BM941BC1. It's got red annodized aluminum scales with a blue backspacer. Oh, yeah, and factory Boron Carbide coating in a numbered limited run of 500 (each knife numbered serially). I can't find anything about their LEs on their website or at any of the knife shops on the web, but I've seen a few (and bought one, gotta support the Bricks and morter guys) at my local knife store. I did find a couple other models on ebay, like a blue handled 940 but it had a black teflon blade coating.
I should have a duplicate 941BC1 LE here tomorrow if the big brown truck arrives as expected. One to live in the safe and one to carry.
My local store had 941 LEs(see above), 960 LEs with carbon bolsters and white linen micarta scales (very good looking), 960s with all carbon scales/bolsters (one piece) and a 770. All were numbered one of 500 on the blade (the store only had a couple of each) and all had BC coated blades.
So with a BM LE you get a Benchmade that most people will never see, a semi custom if you will, with a lot of the custom style features and a full warranty. The LEs don't seem to cost much more than the standard production models, and certainly than you'll spend doing things like boron carbide treatments on an existing knife.
From what I know of the BC process the coating is thin enough that it shouldn't affect the function of the blade if you send yours out.
I don't know if they've issued a LE Ares, because I wan't looking for that model, but you might be able to find a pre tweaked one and save yours to make a nice set (what I'm working on).
Just my opinion.
