I need a set of ten matching throwing spikes.
1/2 " square stock, mild steel. 8 inches long.
They must all weigh the same and fly the same.
Please send me an estimate if you can do this kind of work.

Most of the knife makers here don't use cnc machinery to make knives and I don't see much of any other way you're going to be able to make several of the same thing virtually identical that weighs the same and has the same flight characteristics. Plus most of us are knife makers. That thing looks more along the lines of a tent peg to me.

It would actually be pretty simple to get them all the same, but the problem is that they are illegal to produce in many states (including mine).

Okay List of problems:
1) In most states any blade over 3-6" is illegal CCW
2) Many states banned throwing knives as CCW
3) That isn't a shurikin a shurikin has 4 points and is open in the middle inside of a large square, creating the traditional "4 point Star" effect.
4) You could easily buy 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 1000000, as many as you wanted factory made, and shapen them, it would cost less, and they would work for most things you could use em for.

You want more of a variant throwing dart, or a throwing knife, not really a shurikin.

Sorry, but these are shuriken. Shuriken is a generic classification covering almost any handheld object, designed to be thrown, with more than one point. 2, 3, 4 or even 20 points still fall into this catagory.

Also CCW laws do not regulate the manufacting, owning or using such items. It only covers concealed carry of such objects. And as the original poster is in Japan, our laws have no impact on him.

The laws that do effect them for us in the US are " dangerous and destructive devices" laws. Such law bans the manufacture of shuriken here in CA and in several other states. If they were legal for me to produce I would have my shop asst. whip them up in an hour or so. But a $100 job is not worth a felony rap. Plus shipping them would be another crime.

Yes they are shuriken if you do a little reaserch. I think Ninjitsu History and Tradition by Stephen Hayes has many pics of all kind of shurkin these would be the more profesional not a sure stick like the stars.
Peace
Bob

Ninjitsu History and Tradition by Stephen Hayes

Close. The book you are referring to was written by Masaaki Hatsumi, Soke (Grandmaster) of the 9 ryu (schools) of the Bujinkan. Stephen Hayes was one of his first American students.

You are correct, though about the weapon. It's a "bo shuriken." The flat, four-pointed "stars" are called "senban shuriken." Interesting historical tidbit: the senban variety are similar in appearance to a traditional Japanese carpentry tool for pulling nails. This made them easier to conceal amongst other everyday implements that wouldn't arouse suspicion.

I feel for you R.W...Thank the lord that Va. hasn't completely lost it's mind yet. They would have to be circular here to be illegal. Even then you could make them, just not sell them in Va. The idiots in the General Assembly did make it a prima facia case of intent to sell for mere possession though. In other words, you have to prove that they are not for sale.

I doubt seriously that they could make it past customs in Japan. From what I understand, they are a lot worse than California.

Sorry Danny, it's not the kind of thing I would make for anyone. I might get a wild hair one day and make one for myself....I like toys....

Try swordforums. I'll bet you could get someone there to make a set. They have lots of Ninjas there :footinmou

"In other words, you have to prove that they are not for sale."

Oh, thats real nice! :grumpy: :barf:

Oh, thats real nice!

Isn't it....Idiots!
The reason behind doing that although they won't admit it, is so the cops can grab everything on a table at a gun/knife show that has the evil weapons.
Switchblades are the same thing. Legal to own, cannot carry concealed, legal to make, illegal to sell and possession is prima facias evidence of intent to sell!

Have you checked out Cold Steel's Torpedo? I don't know if you'll have any luck getting them through Japanese customs either...

Edit: Sorry, I just checked out the specs. These don't match what you're looking for (they're 15" long)

Thanks for the correction Mike I was in my teens when I read it..too long ago.
Danny found someone to make them.
Peace
Bob

Ahh something I am familiar with! Yes they are Bo shuriken! in fact anything you pickup and can physically throw i.e. a ball point pen can be considered a bo shuriken. It is amazing what one can learn to throw in a moments notice when it means saving your life. My Bujinkan instructor had a set very similar to these on Thursday. He picked them up while in Japan last month training with Hatsumi.
