Well the title pretty much says it all. I had a peace of walnut wood with kind of a wavy grain patters and some stripes in the color. I thought it would make some good scales. I cut the block in half so the sides would match in grain and whatnot. I am pretty happy with how they came out. Right now they have a few coats of danish oil on them, however I might throw some poly on them to be extra safe. Just thought I would share.

Sorry for the poor quality pictures, I had to use my phone because my camera is MIA at the moment.

Those turned out nice. I'm curious how you lost the coating off the tip of your 11?

Thanks man. I was helping lay some locking laminate floor in the kitchen of my parents house and on a few peaces I had to trim the bottom tong off of a few of them and it wore off.

Looks awesome. You've done a great job matching the grain. Makes me want to finally get around to making mine.

Those are NOT crappy pictures.

Your phone takes pictures as nicely as you do wood scales!

Did you cut the top off your sheath??

Thanks for all of the kind words guys. It is definitely fun making them.

Looks nice, great color. how's the retention on the sheath now?

The retention hasn't really changed. I was careful to not grind it past where the sheath snaps past the sharpening choil bump part.

Thanks man, I really like making handle scales. Scales on the 11 make it much more comfortable to use also. I say go for it.

haha thanks, I didn't cut the sheath per say but yeah I took the belt grinder to it to allow the scales to fit. Worked pretty well but eventually I would like to upgrade to some kydex.

Are ya planning on insetting the screws a hair? Although the round heads shouldn't bother the hand any.

The screws from a side view look kind of football shaped so I do have them set in the scales a bit. On the set of scales I made for the 14 I had flat head screws that were more of a upside down triangle shaped and the just looked a little flat. I might still drop these ones in a little further but I haven't decided yet. I might also throw a little gun blue on them so they don't stand out as much.

Hey those look really nice Nsvens, they almost make me want a BK-11 (more of a BK-14 man myself). Awesome work. When is your name going to turn orange?

I still dont get how peole make removable scales...

Those came out nice man, really like the color on em.

Btw, your pics arent bad quality.

Thanks, that is a huge compliment. I suppose I never really thought anyone would want my stuff. My turn around time would be shit though.........College eats up a bit of my time. If someone didn't care about how long it took I would gladly make them a set.

Thanks, I love the dark color of walnut also. If you are curious as to the process I use I made a thread on it a while back. It was the same process for these up to the finish, this time I just danish oil. Here is my how to thread. Since then I have gotten a few more power tools but the general process is the same.

Thanks, I can never get to drilling the holes correctly on the scales though...Always like 1mm off target Gah!.

Yeah I know what you mean. The trick is drill one then put a pin/screw in the whole so the knife can't move on top of the block then move to the second then third hole. That's how I did it for the set of corian scales I made for my 15. I recently made some micarta that is drying on my work bench. If it comes out good I might make another thread about making a set for my 16. It can definitely be frustrating but it is also really fun (at least to me)
