Custom Wood Scales on a BK2

Well this is my first thread I'm starting here in the Becker forum and I had hoped I could show off a couple Beckers I had got some custom wood scales for. But I just received the scales for my BK2 and I'm disapointed.

Here I'm gonna ask for your thoughts and recommendations. I ordered this set from a guy on eBay maybe he hangs out here maybe not. Seems
it is Jim62 after looking at his work on here.

Onto my problem in the description he said they are as close to the factory grivory as he can get. Well I got them on and they dont fit right. In some places they don't cover the metal handle and some places they over hang the metal. Also it would seem that they are slightly warped with a gap at the pomel between the wood and the metal.

My question is in custom made wood scales is this normal? We're my expectations for a set of scales that fit properly to high? Should I keep them and deal with it or ask for a refund. Your opinions please. Pictures below.
Also my intent is not to offend anyone.

Those look like Jim62's wood laminates.... I don't own any, but I keep hearing they are top quality...

I would probably return those. From what I've seen, that's not his typical work.

That slipped thru QC. I wouldn't be satisfied with those, even at the risk of ''offending someone''.

The wood and contours are great very smooth could be a great scale for sure but they just don't fit. Putting the two pieces of scales together and one is slightly bigger than the other hence the over hang and the not fully covered area. I hope this is just a fluke in production it happens. Should I see if I can send them back and try a different set or just go with the micarta handles?

I can't really tell if this is the case right now, but one of the things I've noticed from making my own is that if the screws aren't the regulation size, depending on how you put the scales on, they can seem to be off, even if they should actually fit. You can fit them better by loosening the screws and repositioning the scales, then retightening. Not sure if this will help in this case, as those look to be the usual screws, but it might be worth trying before you send em back.

You should contact the seller and ask for an exchange or refund, and you should feel justified in doing so. I would attach copies of those photos with your correspondence as well.

Yeah there the stock screws. I've tried a couple of times to no avail. That's when I took them apart and one side is uneven compared to a flat surface and rocks back and fourth. Also the scale aren't the same width or length when compared to each other one is about a millimeter longer and wider than the other and hangs off the back of the pomel and over the sides. While the smaller one isn't as long or as wide as the tang and leaves metal showing in spots making high points on the grip that dig in.

I sent him a PM and will contact him through eBay. I consider this threads purpose finished. I just wanted what thoughts were on this type of scale and I appreciate the help in that matter helped me make up my mind. Thanks.

I am waiting over a month for my scales, I can tell you, if they look like that there going back. I would not accept those at all and would not be worried about offending anyone. He seems to be a stand up guy and im sure he will make it right. Let us know how it works out.

I've just never had that type of custom scales and didn't know if that was the norm or not. If it was the norm I would have asked for a refund and bought the micarta. From all indications this was an aberration of production and a rushed schedule not helped by me pestering him about shipping.

I've heard some good things about his work and am willing to give it another try. He is a stand up guy from all the communications I've had with replacement going to get a replacement set for me and will ship it along with return postage for the other set. I look forward to checking out the new set and will report back with my impression and pictures I have a good feeling about them.

I hate dealing on eBay and just got nervous when I didn't have them in two weeks after purchasing them. Now that I know he's on here and is very responsive I have full faith in him. Kinda before to me he was an unknown but now I know he's part of this great community so I feel better.

An update is needed here.

First of all- Those scales are NOT the quality of those I intended to ship out. The only thing I can think of is that I mixed a few of the rejected scales in with the scales to ship out by accident. It's been a real rodeo here in the shop the last few weeks getting everything shipped out.

It's important to me to do my best work at all times and the above sure is NOT my best...

For what it's worth- Viper and I HAVE worked this out both via PMs on Ebay and Here on the forums. While I think he jumped the gun a little bit by posting this initially until I even had a chance to look at the pics(which is common on the internet), He has been very polite and great to deal with in the last day or so.. And I do appreciate that.

He's getting a replacement set sent out ASAP.

No kudos deserved really(but I sure do appreciate the support:) .
They should have been done right the first time- no matter where he bought them..

Sorry Jim about jumping the gun on here. I didn't know you were on here and was looking for a general idea of what I should expect. Thanks again for being so quick to take care of it and apologize for any bad press here it was not my intention. Thanks again!

Viper,

You are a good guy and human just like all of us..:) I realize that was not your intention to slander anyone, just to resolve a quality issue.
As you can see, this a good place full of great folks. I consider you to be one of them..:)
