hey guys ,im a newbie here and have no idea what allowed and not allowed,im offering my engraving services on ebay and postes a thread on here about but was told to remove it,how can i offer my services to knife owners on here?

IMHO the best way is to participate, make new friends here and show pics of your work. Linking to ebay and cutting and pasting adds in many of the forums here is not a very good start. At least it would turn away my business if it continued.

Welcome to Bladeforums! There's a link to "Get a Premium, Gold, Dealer or Knifemaker Subscription" at the top of this page. If you get a Knifemaker membership ($30 a year) you can advertise your services in the Knifemaker For Sale forum. (I know you're not exactly a knifemaker, but you're close enough. We have some sheathmakers and customizers and people like that in the Knifemaker category.)

You can't advertise in the discussion forums even after you get a Knifemaker membership; only in the appropriate forum. You can't post links to Ebay ads anywhere on Bladeforums, either.

If you choose to get a Knifemaker membership your member title will automatically change to "Knifemaker" which could be confusing, but then you can post in this forum and ask Spark to give you the custom title "Engraver" or "Knife Engraver" or whatever would be most appropriate.

Then you should ask first.

There are 43,528 knives for sale on eBay today. If we allowed all those sellers to post links to their auctions, our poor discussion forum would simply collapse.

There are three good ways that a custom maker can advertise here on bf.c.

1) Post pictures of your work in the appropriate forums. But, keep in mind that those posts must not be advertising. You can not list a price. You can not offer the knife. You can not offer you services overtly. You can simply post a picture saying, "Look what I did." This will encourage potential customers to contact you by e-mail outside of the forum and you can work out your deals that way.

2) Build a nice website for yourself (this is neither hard nor expensive) and put a modest link to that site in your signature line. Then, partipate intelligently here at bf.c. Every post you make will have your website in it and many people, impressed by your intelligent, knowledgable, thoughtful, and helpful posts, will click on your link and see your site.

3) Buy a dealer membership here at bf.c. Now you can advertise within specific limits which will be explained to you at that time.
