A large part of ordering a knife is the way that you are treated, With that in mind, who out there offers the best customer service? That should include helping you order/modify your knife and of course after sales support. Thanks

In my experience, Pat Crawford.

I should add that other makers have been exceptionally speedy and polite in their e-mail replies to my inquiries..I have full confidence that they would give good service if I went ahead with the orders that I was asking about (or if I needed servicing on knives already purchased)...some of these gentlemen include:

(in alphabetical order)

Neil Blackwood
David Broadwell
David Dempsey
Jim Hammond
Farid Meihr
Bud Nealy
Darrel Ralph
Ray Rogers

Of all the makers I have dealt with the only three that I have needed any after sale support from one was Darrel Ralph and he was great. He got back to me immediately with the information that I required. Then there was John Fitch and he also did everything I could expect considering the situation he found himself in. Ron Leuschen also did a great job of looking after a small problem that I Had with one of his knives.

Of those that I have dealt with that I have not needed after sales service from, I have had great experiences with Ivan Campos and Ed Fowler.

There are quite a few makers that I have ordered knives from that have not arrived as of yet or that I have contacted about ordering knives, that I would have no hesitation dealing with in the future. These include: Ron Newton, Dan Farr, Bill Burke, Bill Buxton, Jerry Fisk, Roger Massey, Bailey Bradshaw, Brian Lyttle, Ed Storch, Nick Wheeler, Shane Justice, Audra Draper, Tai Goo, Ray Richard, Michael Connor, Daniel Winkler, Ted Dowell, Greg Lightfoot and Des Horn.

Bill Burke has been a pleasure to work with on my pronghorn. I don't have the knife yet but he keeps you informed (email/phone). When you talk to him on the phone it's like talking to a life long friend.

Bob Dozier is also good to work with. Service after the sale is great. I had to send my K-4 back for sheath repair and it went smooth as can be. Got it back today. A call to Ms Linda can brighten your day and they are quick to get back to you with a responce.

Makes you look forward to dealing with them again...

I would include Matt Lamey and Bill Siegle. Both are great in every area I have needed them to be. The last dealing I had with Matt, there were 10 emails send back and forth. Each one if my questions were answered prompyly. The last dealing I had with Bill, there were 16 corespondences, also, each one answered in a timely manner. As far as after sales support, I have not needed any. Everything came as it should and has held up nicely.

Dempsey, definitely the gentleman you want to deal with. He's the kind of knifemaker who'll be your friend, instead of just being another businessman.

Dozier also offers great customer service. Most of my email inquiries were all replied within an hour.

From my own experience, most knifemaker are gentlemen who give their clients the best service they deserve. Can't really say who is the best.

Kit and Mike (Carson & Obenauf for any newbies) and JW Smith are as good as they come and go way beyond what is necessary - definitely belong with those others mentioned. Kit at the Blade show this year asked to refurbish a knife I bought back in '95 - I could not find anything wrong but he said the lock-up/stop pin needed some work - knife came back better than new I think - talk about customer service!!! Also kudos to Darryl - does it right every time! Rob Simonich is another who deserves mention for absolutely outstanding service.

John Sevey has been great with me. Willing to send extra pictures and a follow-up on if I was satisfied.

I'll add Larry Davidson. He actually responds quickly to email (imagine that!) and is very friendly and clear in his communication. Great guy to deal with, and absolutely no problem with handling service.

I've been very lucky and the knifemakers I have dealt with have almost all been polite and full of integrity:
David Mosier (DMKnives)
Bill Bagwell
Kevin Cashen
Darrel Ralph
David Winston
Craig Steketee
Matt Lamey
Ron Leuschen (Little Hen Knives)
Jens Anso

And as for leather craftsmen, Dwayne "leatherman" Puckett and Kenny Rowe are the tops.

I've been fortunate enough to deal with quite a few very decent knifemakers who make fine Bowies.
However, five in particular stand out in my mind as top knifemakers with great customer service and fun to deal with.
1) Bob Lay
2) Daniel Winkler
3) D'alton Holder
4) Jim Walker
5) Jerry Fisk

Prompt, courteous, professional treatment is what we all desire and is the mark of quality.
I find myself spending more of my money where I'm given this kind of service rather than where I find a lower price.
Recently, My wife and I purchased a new car,,we went to several dealerships and were treated like shmucks at most of them. One dealership listened, treated us like our time was valuable and gave us the answers we wanted. Needless to say,,they weren't the cheapest but we bought anyway.
Customer Service Makes All The Difference.

Terry is the man you'll want to deal with more than once!

Heck, I even posted a message concerning my desire to have a knife duplicated because I wanted one or two modifications to make it "perfect"... Terry emailed me worried that I wanted one of his redone 'cause I didn't think it was good enough!:D Now THAT'S CUSTOMER CARE!!! LOL!!!
