I have a Buck Odyssey 186 with the thermoplastic handle and I was wondering if it is possible to have the thermoplastic replaced with either G-10 or Carbon Fiber and if so does anyone know who could do it and how much it would cost? I would like to buy a 182 with the ATS-34 blade and the Carbon Fiber handle but I can't seem to find one. Please let me know.

Email me at yengdaddy@hotmail.com or post here.

If it can be done, Leroy Remer can do it for you. He worked in the Custom Shop at Buck for many years. He's on his own now, making custom knives, but he still repairs and works on Buck knives. His email address is Triple-R-Knives@worldnet.att.net. Email me if you would like his phone number.

Thanks man, I sent him an email and hopefully he can help me

Boobar,

If it works drop a line here and try to get a picture up. I have a Odyssey 181 w/ ATS-34 steel that I bought off eBay a while back. Someone had already customized the handle with some black and blue fiberglass. The pictures looked a lot better than the knife did after I got it but since it wasn't all that expensive I didn't bitch. If I could get some G-10 or CF and a new clip I would be real happy.

John - thanks for the tip, I just may email Leroy myself! ;)

I recently got an Odyssey 186 and it's really started to grow on me. Not quite an EDC yet but close. I need a little advice on modifying the tip. It's a little too thin for my needs and was looking for some pointers (pun intended) from anyone who's changed it. Thanks, ft

A very little known fact is that when the Odyssey first came out it was not offered in the Carbon fiber but G-10! We only made about 3000 of them and switched to CF. It was the Odyssey II 182FL and it had an ATS-34 blade. I have seen them bought and sold with the persons involved thinking they had the 186. Its not always easy to tell the thermoplastic from the G-10. The easiest thing to look for is the G-10 will be held together with allan head fasteners, not rivets.
Hope this helps.

If anyone has an Odyssey with the G-10 handle I would like to buy it. I am also interested in the one with the carbon fiber handle.
