Customize a Mini Griptilian?

Hey guys,

First post here! I came from CandlePowerForums, and after spending too much money on flashlights, now I'm ready for knives! (wow... this is what my life has come to).

Anyways, does anyone know if I can get a Benchmade Mini Griptilian 556S in the green colored handle with a Black ComboEdge 154cm blade?

I know the green handle was discontinued, but if I got a hold of one, could I swap the blades out? Is there a dealer or service to do that? Anything?

Thanks a lot!

john

The blades should swap out.

Might try emailing BM customer service to see if they will do it. Normally they don't, but I've read of others claiming otherwise.

Thanks guys!!
I'll give Benchmade a call... it would be awesome if they could help me out!
If they cannot help me, how difficult is it to swap them out yourself - is it just a screw, or some other fastening mechanism? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
john

To swap the blades there is: 1-A pivot 'bolt" and screw (nut). Torx # 10 (#9 will do)

2- Two (2) bronze washers.

3- The blade.

4- easy ~

5- hope this helps.

Unless I screw it up (in which case I'll 100% blame you... jk), this helps a LOT!
Thanks wells!

Let us know how it turned out.

Well, I contacted Benchmade, and for $20, if I send them the unused knife, they said they'd swap out the 440c blade with a 154cm.

They don't return the original blade, but that's ok with me!

Thanks for your help - and I'll let you know what happens!

I may just be a perfectionist and want the 154cm because it's out there and is apparently a step above the 440c, but I may take a look at this knife and realize that the blade is perfect for everything I need it for.

Hey guys,

So I got my Mini Grip - which, at first looks, is a very fine-crafted knife.

As I was playing with it (playing with knives??), it feels a little too loose of action in opening the blade... basically, I'm worried that, when clipped in my pocket, I don't want it to open up (obviously).

Benchmade said that the "The Blue Box" contains the tools necessary to tighten the blade tension. I'm sure I can buy the correct size of wrench from my hardware store for less money, but wanted to know if tightening the blade tension is just a matter of slightly adjusting the pivot screw?

Thanks!

Yep, just turn the pivot screw slightly to adjust blade tension. Consider adding a drop of blue Loctite, then adjusting the blade tension in the 20 minutes or so before it sets.

I like Griptilians because they're easy to work on.

Thanks for the heads up - I do have a Cabela's near me, but I already bought the green Mini-Grip, and sent it to Benchmade to swap out the 440c blade with 154cm - they were really nice about it, and quick and helpful in their responses!

In my research, it seemed like 154cm suits my needs more anyways, as I won't be using it in a utility/heavy application, so I don't need a steel as hard as the D2. That, and even after the $20 blade swap, I've still only paid $77 for the knife, so that's not bad!!

Thanks!
john
