As most of you are aware by now I've been making use of my (limited) spare time to do machete modifications. My latest efforts have been focused on creating a large camp knife, and a big ol' golok-y chopper. So far the camp knife is finished and I'm most of the way done on the big beast, which is good since it's already spoken for! The camp knife should do excellently for food prep, fire, and shelter building tasks with equal aplomb. The blade gives excellent knuckle clearance when slicing and the weighted nose makes it hit hard for its size!

Work done on camp knife:
-Cut blade to shape
-Rounded spine
-Flushed scales to tang
-Smoothed and refined shape of choil
-Sharpened edge to a polished convex

This is a very handy piece--the balance came out better than I possibly could have hoped, and combines just the right amount of forward weight with control over the base of the blade for finer tasks and making fuzz sticks.

More pictures to come tomorrow. For now, here's a shot of it in-hand. I took this at work, so pardon all of the stuff in the background. :p

I know a lot of folks haven't tried Hansa machetes before, so let me assure you that they're fantastic. The CEO is a member on the boards here, though he's not a frequent contributor. They're my favorite brand after Condor/Imacasa, and they knock the socks off of Tramontina!

Last photos for now. It should be known that out of the 50 I'm asking for it, only about 20 of it is my labor charge for doing all of the customization. I'm not really making much for my time, and I put more than three hours of work into it. This is a significantly improved piece for general usage, and comes with a stupid sharp edge already on it and the scales flushed to the tang, saving you a hefty chunk of time that could be better spent on other things. ;)

Oh--I forgot to mention. I DO ship internationally, and I DO take money orders or checks (with checks allow time for them to clear). As far as average shipping cost is concerned, a piece this size will cost about $8.00 to ship CONUS. International is obviously more, but not awful. I've shipped larger pieces to Australia before and they cost about $18 to ship.

Ok--hate to do it since I'm charging so little already, but...

If anyone has comments about things they would have liked to have seen done differently with this piece or styles of blades they'd like to see me try to make, you're welcome to PM me about it. I want to make designs that you guys want, so any info is helpful. I know what works and what works for me, but it's not me I'm designing for here! :p

Think of this piece as something like a monster-sized Nessmuk with a more acute point. It would make for a great large knife/small machete for use around camp or in the garden! It'll chop and split the wood for the fire and slice up the dinner you cook over it!

13.5" just like it says on the base of the blade. My modification didn't reduce the blade length at all on this model. I've got a bite on this one, so I'm considering it sold--pending payment but I'll post up if it ends up becoming available again. I do take commissions, too, so I'd have no problem with ordering and modifying another one of these.

I am very impressed! Particularly with the edge. Did you primarily hand grind it?
Never thought I'd see such an "Arrocero".

I ground it by hand on a belt sander with sharpening belts. It'll slice paper with ease now. A compliment from the head of the company means a lot to me! I'd love to do design work someday. It's been fun "unlocking" these designs from the original patterns.

The fellow who had contacted me previously about taking this piece hasn't gotten back to me with a shipping address or payment. It's back up for sale, folks!

Ducking back in from a brief time away to say that this is still available. I'm a busy fellow right now, but I'm still looking to make this disappear!
