I finally started adding Spyderco's to my collection, starting with the Mamba. It is a beautiful knife and I am proud to own it. I have always admired the very artistic, medieval looking handle of the Hungarian but the blade shape seemed "off" to me, so I hesitated. I ended up getting one anyway, recently, after I purchased a Vallotton and thought the polished G10 on that sexy handle, was so nice, I could over look the contrasting blade shape. After holding it, and carrying it for a week, and comparing it to my Mamba and Valotton, I just couldn't get over how much the sharply angled blade profile contrasted with the beautifully curvy handle. The sharply flat grind of the spine and the angled peak above the hole were disappointing. Beyond aesthetics, I'm certain the very sharp spine would wreak havoc on my pants pockets, in no time.
So I went out the garage and got to work, with a towel, a bowl of water and a grinder, I began the slow process of grinding and cooling and grinding and cooling. I was very careful to keep the blade cool, so I only ground for about 5 seconds before I cooled the blade. It took a while but I finally got it what I wanted. I'm very pleased and proud of how it turned out.
Edit: I have recently given this knife a name to honor a Hungarian hero of the American Revolutionary War. This is Col Kovats.
