I added a handle and made a sheath for a Kanetsune Yari. This knife is insanely sharp after the paper wheel treatment. Things I don't like about the knife are the fragility of the edge (had to touch it up after dropping it) and its tendency to stain:

Sweet. Weird sheath design, though. You rarely see a sheath that isn't leather or kydex.

It's not really weird at all... Many cultures have made sheaths similar to this for their knives/blades, everything from philippine barongs to japanese katanas.

I do think it could use more shaping to make it a bit more aesthetic by that's just my opinion. :D;) I'm a kydex guy myself...:)

I'll repost with better pictures. I may have to make another sheath, as I tried to make one in two pieces - then glue them together. Getting the dimensions of the blade just right was very difficult. What I like about the sheath and handle is the beauty of the wood, which isn't really shown in the photos. the gran on the handle matches that on the sheath as both were made from a single piece of wood.

I know it is a traditional style sheath, and that makes it even weirder. OP needs to make a second matching sheath and blend it right into the handle (kind like how the sheath is on a Japanese shirasaya). The seamless design will make people think it is a little shillelagh or something.

That is really nice looking - the scabbard could flow to the handle better, but overall is very good work. Looks almost like a puukko with that beefy handle.
