Hello knife world,

Has anyone seen or done a customization on a Leatherman? I have seen some of the work done on Spyderco's, just wondering if anyone has done something special with a Leatherman like carbon fiber handles. Would love to see pics!

Thanks,

Ryan

Well......yes. I've "customized" my supertool but not along the lines
you mentioned. I've drilled the handles to lighten it and ground the
main knife blade into a spike for working rope. Don't think that's
what you had in mind tho.

The idea is interesting however. Why not? We customize everything
else. Let's see what your thread turns up.

Ryan, Sorry no scanner for pics. What I did was very basic grinding and drilling
of the supertool. I ground off the main blade into a crude spike to loosen rope knots
and had the local machine shop drill a series of holes on the handles to lighten the
tool plus give a little bit better grip with wet hands. More than likley you'll find the
drill work is best done at a shop to get the holes aligned and the handle steel is HARD.

I won't recommend that anyone do what I did. I just made the supertool into the tool I
needed for my job. There is one very important point I need to mention here.......
DO NOT not try this modification on the new Supertool 200. It will ruin the 200.
(or the pulse) I bought another original supertoolto backup mine until I retire.

I've done a couple things with my leathermen, most significantly turned a wave handle into a "swiss army" style knife, added a diamond file and metal match where the pliers had been, with saw and knife in the locking positions, worked out great, have been considering a major upgrade to a sideclip, adding diamond sharpener(bothsides two grits) awl and quality blade, the blade being the difficult part, probably will have to make do with what comes on it.I'd love to see someone make a first rate multi, with Ti sandwich slabs and good steel blades!
