Ok, so I've now done my 7th 'Customized' knife from a KnifeKits.com DDR-1. This version was started from the ground up as something a little different, and for ME!
It's time to 'represent'!
I had done a stag version a while ago, and I liked it so much I decided upon this as my base. (Darrell Ralph sold me a set out of his personal stock-- thanks!!) The distinctions on this are, of course, the addition of the R. Eggerling 'Crossroads' bolster material. This I fitted and adapted to have a hidden pivot screw. Also I spent considerable time with pencil an paper playing with various patterns of 'filework' for the blade and ebony backspacer. I settled on this pattern, which, keeping with my theme, is called 'Fireworks'. (my others had a pattern I called 'lightning bolt'
) It *almost* looks random, but there's a distinct pattern which is very clear on the backspacer.
This one has taken me a month of scattered evenings and days off to complete--more than any others, but I really wanted to have a representative piece in my pocket.
The other things I enhanced on this one are:
Coop (who always has fun with his camera, too!)
Oh, and to answer to the common call: I DID purchace a KMG-1 knifemaker's grinder. It's a lonnnnnnnng road before I'll be makin sparks, but there'll be a day soon!
Gotta LOT more equipment to get as well. We're in this for the long haul, right?

The other things I enhanced on this one are:
- Hand-rubbed (600grit) finish on blade
- Beveled the top leading edge
- Dovetailed bolsters
- Fileworked liners on backbar
- Red spacer on scales
- Reworked and 'ribbed' thumbstud
- Skeletonized the clip to obscure it
