Customizing a limited edition Sequel

I got a Benchmade D2 Sequel in trade recently, and would like to customize the wood inserts. I have owned two regular Sequels before this one, and while I would appreciate either straight G10 or titanium with G10 scales, I am not put off by the inevitable scratches in the aluminum scales. However, I cannot get a preferred grip with the wood inserts on the D2 Sequel. Can I checker the scales, and what would I need to do this myself? Who can I go to for this? STR? Because of the size of the inserts, would this be pointless? It is not going to be a collection piece, but an EDC knife.

I can't answer your specific question, but a different solution to your problem would be to sell or trade the 707 and get the probably-less-expensive mini griptilian in D2. That knife offers a very secure, checkered grip and is otherwise very similar to the 707 (unless you like the fancier look of the 707, possibly diminished by modifying).
