Here is something I have been thinking about lately and decided to start a thread about it.
My EDC knives Bechmade barrage 580 and 581auto asist axis lock.

Has anyone ever changed there auto asist into full auto I know that benchmade makes a full auto
With the axis lock just wondering if anyone has done it or if it is even possible.

Also does anyone know about solid g10 scales for for the barrage 580 I seen a pic of one that looked like g10 but have not
Found any info on it. It would be a big improvement over the valox scales which imo it should have.
Does anyone make custom scales for the barrage.

As I see it, there would be two problems. First, with the current spring set up on the Barrages, the spring should work the keep the knife closed. IE: The knife should not open itself when you pull back on the axis lock. Second, if you were replace the spring with one strong enough to open the blade, it would override the current detent. So it would become dependent on the safety to hold the blade closed. If you could overcome those two problems, you would have a really great auto. Just my two cents.

While I haven't seen any custom scales on the barrage series, I would think one of the scale makers on this forum could make you a set.

Converting the Barrage to auto is nigh impossible. Sadly it is just not made to do it. The scales are much more doable, but have an issue. The scales are heavily milled to give room for both sides of the pivot and all the screws, and that would not be easy to get done right. Many scale makers here can do it, but it will be pretty expensive/hasslesome to accomplish.

That makes sense. I have not taken of the scales to check underneath but I can see that without the right tools to do the milling it would be tricky to do the scales are not that thick to begin with so there wouldn't de a lot of meat to work with unless you went with thick scales and who wants that.
The 581 barrage shouldn't be to hard to make custom scales as long as you leave the aluminum bolsters maby some red and black g10 with a
Polished titanium clip would be nice.
And it will stay auto assist.

How is g10 to work with as far as cutting , fileling , drilling and sanding it???

From what I have been told, extremely toxic. I would not expect it to be that hard to work but I also haven't ever worked with it.

Benchmade is now offering the Barrage with two types of G10 scales; G10 with aluminum and all G10. IMO, neither is making the best use of G10 because they aren't nearly as grippy as a VZ Grips handgun grip. However, the all G10 is better than either the Valox or the G10 with aluminum.

Be aware that the bolster lining on the G10 is different than the bolster lining on the Valox model. The clip screws on the Valox model bite into the scales while the clip screws on the all G10 model go through the scales and into the bolster lining. The all G10 model thus has 3 extra screw holes on each side of the bolster lining.
