Customizing my Endura

Sal,

I bought my Endura II almost two years ago. I really like this folder except for two things:

1/ The stainless handle. I like its looks, weight and solid heft -- but its just too slippery! Can I attach something to it to make it less slippery to hold on to?

2/ The clip. I'm a southpaw and would like the clip's location moved to the other side and moved up ala EDI Genesis I's "deep pocket carry". Can I send my folder to your shop and have this modified?

As a suggestion, why don't you open a Spyderco Custom Shop where customers can have their knives customized -- like what Colt, S&W, Springfield, Taurus, etc. are providing with their guns?

Thanks for any help!

Try skateboard tape I use it for grip tape
on most of my knifes and guns....Plain simple
cheap and easy to cut to your shapes....

Titan, visit a large chain store and look for the shoe accessories section. There you will find "non slip" adhesive patches for the bottom of womens shoes. They are of a rubber type and while just as grippy as "skateboard" tape, they are more forgiving on your hands and pants pockets. Got them on many of my Spydies including the Delica 2. Check out both, your choice.

Good ideas Murray and Nakano, I'll have to try some adhesive grippy stuff on my Endura II! That's my biggest complaint about the SS Spydercos, they're a bit slippery.

Titan - Mad Dog (Kevin) also has access to some very effective stuff for "sheathing" handles. At this time, we cannot turn that model into a "lefty", sorry. Perhaps in the future when/if? the custom shop comes to pass, or maybe as a standard feature sometime in the future.

Couldn't you just drill new clip holes on the left side of your Endura II?? Put them where ya want the clip to go. You could also have checkering done on the steel body. I'm sure someone could do it. If ya have the money for it, engraving the knife would work also. Just some ideas.

Guys, guys, guys!!! Skateboard-tape on a knife? Are you out of your mind? What about aesthetics? Whats wrong with buying a nice piece of wood or maybe some neoprene and then shape it to fit the knife? Micarta maybe? If you have really sweaty hands you can checker it. 20 or 30 lpi will do the trick. You can then also reverse the clip.

Thanks, all, for the replies. I guess I'll just have to make do with your suggestions.

Sal, I really hope for a Spyderco Custom Shop soon!

Nothing wrong with Skateboard tape on a working knife. I buy the syderco for the reliablity and fact you can beat on them.
Skateboard tape goes on some of my glocks
It is the most perfect grip tape around...
Just my 2cents

Wow, I thought I was the only one that did the griptape thing. Yes, the aesthetics aren't great but highly functional and inexpensive. I shaped the tape to contour my Police model's flat side, pocket clip and the flat portion below the clip(pommel area).
Pelle, There's a large retail knife shop in my area that has many stainless handle model Spyderco's that have bone, ivory, wood etc. inlays(custom done?) and though not my style, they do look very nice.

Thanks,
Ken

The non slip adhesive patches come with a "marbled" texture! The light grey color offers a very nice subtle match with stainless. Check them out for yourself.
