I don't know how many of you custom forum people check out the passaround forum, but we're currently raising funds and looking for ideas about getting a custom knife for either a permanent passaround or a passaround with some other method payment/rent/lease/etc.

What I was wondering if anyone here specific ideas about makers, passaround possibilities, or perhaps had something that would work for us, comments, etc.

You can checkout the thread here for details and please chime in, our fundraising stands at $170 currently.

Dave, there are alot of "Maker Beware" signals that I'm thinking about with this. I really believe that it could backfire on any new maker or experienced makers reputation. Why? You had said that the custom maker maintains the upkeep of a knife that is going to be a repeat passaround, when this knife needs to be sharpened and tuned back up who pays the shipping and insurance cost on the knife? Natural handle materials can act differently in one region of the country than another. If making a drop point hunter that is intended to field dress deer, hogs, small game...if the knife isn't clean when returning to it's sheath is a bacterial infection. Next user? Please point out the up side of this idea. I am not trying to be difficult here Dave, just really realistic about it. Any one else have a comment? Cavelady

I can attest to THAT! (Mammoth ivory, for instance. :( )

Good points, Cindy.
