Well, I've got a story that involves everything in the title and happened in a matter of about 2 seconds.
I was doing some double bali work with a 42 in my left hand and a bali-song cutlery custom in my right. I had been working for about 10 minutes when I looked at the clock and realized I was going to be late to picking up my GF. In the rush I choked up a bit to far on the custom when I was performing a finishing finger twirl and sunk the sharped swedge into my index finger. I didn't feel much pain but knew I was gonna bleed like a mother if I didn't cut circulation. It's at this time I remembered that I was wearing one of Clays Extreme Concealex neck sheaths. Instantly I removed the nylon cord from it and wound it tightly around the base of my index finger. I managed to do this without spilling any blood on the floor and only a small bit on my shirt. I looked at my finger an noticed the cut was no longer bleeding and looked to be a very even cut about 1/8" deep and 1/2" long. I found the hydrogen peroxide and poured it into the wound to clean any crud out that might have entered it. So there I am, index finger pointing out, nylon cord wrapped around my now bluish finger, and my custom laying on the table in front of me.
Not wanting to remove the cord and let the blood begin to gush, I found some neosporin and a bandaid. I spread the wound open so I could see how deep it was and to decide if I'd need stitches. My unprofessional decision was no stitches so I smeared a good helping of neosporin on the cut and INTO the cut, kind like filling the gap between tile with grout. I put a bandaid over it and untied the cord. No blood at all! I was quite surprised since the last time I cut myself that bed it took about an hour to completely stop with no cord or neosporin.
Now, most of the time when I cut myself, if I move my finger too much it'll bleed a little bit for the next few days. This time, I went to change the bandaid that night and the wound had RECLOSED itself. The outside layer of skin looks as if the two sides grew back together. Being the curious type I am, I began to try to spread the cut back open with no luck. I picked up a 42 and tried a bit of manipulation with it. No blood, but when the spine would make contact with that area of my finger it hurt like hell. Now, a day later the cut almost looks healed and doesn't hurt a bit.
So, my lesson of the day is, go buy an Extreme Concealex sheath from Clay, so when you do cut yourself, you have something to tie the wound off with. Make sure to FILL the wound with neosporin, and put a bandaid over it to hold the neosporin in the wound.
