I like knives like Emersons CQC and Buck\Striders hard core take anything kind of knives(I work construction). Im getting some Money together soon and I thought I should look into this custom stuff. Than I realized, take the little bit I know about the production world and toss it out the window.

I dont have the first clue about ANYTHING custom! The only thing I know is I want a Beck WSK bad. Dont have quite that much money yet :(

If I were to spend about $200 (dont laugh, Im poor!) What could I get for an EDC. For SOME kind of parameters, some of my favorite carry knives right now are a Spyderco Delica and my VERY favorite my new EKI CQC-7 :D(though I prefer a traditional grind..)

Looking for a one hand opening folder-pocket clip (non fragile){this does not mean has to be humongeous } Prefer 3 to 4 inch blade not much bigger 2.5 inch minimum.

Can you all help me ease into the custom world a bit, and maybe get a laugh out of it for yourselves ;)

I guess you consider John Greco custom, but I'm the "newbie" ;) , he still has 2 available models of folders on his site . Everyone here says they are built solid and tough and make great users and at $75 each you could buy one of each model and have them shipped for $170 and still have yourself a good lunch :)

Greco folders are as close to indestructible as a knife gets. I have two of them. They are not precisely what I'd call custom, but they would be ideal for someone in construction.

They can be retrofitted with handle slabs, although I prefer mine in the all-metal original version. They can be pretty stiff to unlock, but they will not fold up on you unexpectedly. They have no clips, but are almost immune to dirt jamming the lock, so dropping them in a pocket is not a problem.

You might want to get one, just to raise your standards once you do go custom. :D

Save some more and get a Mike Obanauf folder. Outstanding quality in the $350.00 or so price range, where similar quality folders go for lots more. This is a knife you can take from work to dressy situations. You will find that action so smooth and enjoyable to handle and nice knife to look at.
