Hi Robert,
I appreciate your concern, but not to worry. All of the knives on my site are selling at a rapid pace. I went to the SOS Show in Texas last weekend with only 47 knives to bring...only 6 tactical folders.
They are being scooped up as fast as I can get them.
In the last 4 weeks I have sold:
2 Viper 1's
1 Viper 1 with Emerson logo
2 Viper 2's
1 Viper 2 with Emerson logo
1 Viper 3 no date
2 CQC5's
2 CQC6's no date
1 CQC6 Damascus
1 CQC6 with date
1 CQC7 no date
1 CQC 9 dated
1 CQC9 No date serrated (actually traded this one).
I do have to agree, the CQC8's have me confused. I have been offered some trades on them. Maybe they are slightly overpriced for the market right now.
I do have a new CQC6 no date and a Viper 1 no date just in.
I think the trend right now is to go for the dated knives as they are being sold for much less in the aftermarket. I have seen CQC6's sell for under $1,000 now.
It looks like there will be a down turn on prices in the after market for the "dated" knives, where as the non-dated knives will start to grow in demand again.
As we all know it is supply and demand. Right now Ernie is supplying a lot of knives. If he brings the same or near the same amount of knives to the New York Custom Show. You can expect the prices to go under $1,000 for most of the models.
So if your standing in line for the lottery just to buy one for resale, don't expect to see those high numbers of a year ago.
Don't buy into the "economy being bad" right now. There are always certain sectors of the economy are bad. Most of the tactical makers I talk to on a regular basis are selling all the knives they can make.
When Steve Shackelford interviewed me for the Guild Show review in the current issue of Blade some weeks back. He told me that several makers had told him the tactical craze is over. I told him, those guys must not make tactical knives. Want further proof look at the picture of the heard of people standing in front of Emerson's table at the Guild Show.
For my part, the guys I work with on a regular basis are so back ordered or are no longer taking orders. That when I do get in several of their knives, they are either sold prior to getting here or shortly after. So the illision is that the knives are not selling because the don't make it to my site or to my table at shows.
While Erine has his lottery and is selling out, the same is happening at other shows with guys like Brend, Carson, Lightfoot, Simonich, Onion, Chew, Terzuola, Ralph and a few others not in the Tactical market. Guys like Fisk, Dean, Bose, Fowler, SR Johnson, George Herron, etc.
Tacticals have been leading the way for 8 years now and are not slowing down. Knives from the makers in the ABS seem to be picking up steam and other sectors of the market are seeing a resurgance as well, like Damascus Folders and Hunters/Skinners. Overall, things are very good in the custom knife market right now.
