Just wondering why that is...in the past these would have been snapped up in a heartbeat...NO DATE CQC-5, -6, and -8 (with scalloped G-10 scales!), and 2 2001 CQC-8's. Is it because they are priced too high? Miniumum price is $1800...Way out of my price range, but that hasn't stopped other Suspects from snatching up some great Emersons! So what's the scoop? Is everyone done with their Emerson collection? Saving for something REALLY BIG? Unemployed (I am :( )? Or just priced out of the market?

This is the second Emerson that hasn't sold lately.
Maybe this is an outward visible sign of the economic downturn we're in.
The Emerson Economic Index?

Hi Robert,

I appreciate your concern, but not to worry. All of the knives on my site are selling at a rapid pace. I went to the SOS Show in Texas last weekend with only 47 knives to bring...only 6 tactical folders.

They are being scooped up as fast as I can get them.

In the last 4 weeks I have sold:

2 Viper 1's
1 Viper 1 with Emerson logo
2 Viper 2's
1 Viper 2 with Emerson logo
1 Viper 3 no date
2 CQC5's
2 CQC6's no date
1 CQC6 Damascus
1 CQC6 with date
1 CQC7 no date
1 CQC 9 dated
1 CQC9 No date serrated (actually traded this one).

I do have to agree, the CQC8's have me confused. I have been offered some trades on them. Maybe they are slightly overpriced for the market right now.

I do have a new CQC6 no date and a Viper 1 no date just in.

I think the trend right now is to go for the dated knives as they are being sold for much less in the aftermarket. I have seen CQC6's sell for under $1,000 now.

It looks like there will be a down turn on prices in the after market for the "dated" knives, where as the non-dated knives will start to grow in demand again.

As we all know it is supply and demand. Right now Ernie is supplying a lot of knives. If he brings the same or near the same amount of knives to the New York Custom Show. You can expect the prices to go under $1,000 for most of the models.

So if your standing in line for the lottery just to buy one for resale, don't expect to see those high numbers of a year ago.

Don't buy into the "economy being bad" right now. There are always certain sectors of the economy are bad. Most of the tactical makers I talk to on a regular basis are selling all the knives they can make.

When Steve Shackelford interviewed me for the Guild Show review in the current issue of Blade some weeks back. He told me that several makers had told him the tactical craze is over. I told him, those guys must not make tactical knives. Want further proof look at the picture of the heard of people standing in front of Emerson's table at the Guild Show.

For my part, the guys I work with on a regular basis are so back ordered or are no longer taking orders. That when I do get in several of their knives, they are either sold prior to getting here or shortly after. So the illision is that the knives are not selling because the don't make it to my site or to my table at shows.

While Erine has his lottery and is selling out, the same is happening at other shows with guys like Brend, Carson, Lightfoot, Simonich, Onion, Chew, Terzuola, Ralph and a few others not in the Tactical market. Guys like Fisk, Dean, Bose, Fowler, SR Johnson, George Herron, etc.

Tacticals have been leading the way for 8 years now and are not slowing down. Knives from the makers in the ABS seem to be picking up steam and other sectors of the market are seeing a resurgance as well, like Damascus Folders and Hunters/Skinners. Overall, things are very good in the custom knife market right now.

Well said, Les. Very true statements. Just because they haven't sold yet, it doesn't mean they won't sell soon - supply and demand are extremely flexible constraints.

Thanks for the reply, Les. I just couldn't believe that those knives were still on your website! Especially that older CQC-8! If only I had the cash...

If there are Emerson customs selling for UNDER $1000, thats just what I want to hear! I just MAY be able to afford one now. Since I never seem to get to a show where Ernie sets up a table (I'm in Oregon, and there are not many shows, save for the OKCA in April), I don't get the chance to get one through the lottery for a reasonlable price (in relation to my pocketbook). And nobody has gallantly stepped forward to offer me one of their customs for less than the outrageous secondary market prices.

I know all about the supply-demand economics, but I was just curious if maybe demand was falling now, for whatever reason. Anyone else have anything to add? Why hasn't anyone snagged these customs yet?

I've had my eye on those '8's for a while now. :D For me, the price is on my own personal lunatic fringe for a user. If they were more like $1200 however..........:)

I don't think there is anything necessarily wrong with the market as a whole. I think the "tertiary" (if there is a such a thing-I refer here to private sellers) market is in the bowl (as anyone who has tried to sell a knife recently can probably attest) but at the last show I attended (BACKA) it appeared that many of the makers and dealers were doing pretty well. Hell, Ken Onion sold out completely in about 45 seconds.................

I guess the main reason that I haven't bought one of the CQC8s is that I seem to be buying everyting else.... :D

Les, If you want to get rid of them I will give you $100 for the lot.

LOL

Ed

I have to agree with Les. Right now there are a lot of Emerson customs available on the secondary market. Ernest has attended both the Guild show and Blade West and brought about 30 knives to each show. As we all know, a lot of folks enter the auctions to get a knife they resell quickly for a nice profit. With a lot of competition, the prices drop. I've seen Viper1s' offered between $1175 and $1500. After the New York show I think prices will be soft for awhile and then go back up.

Oh well the undated CQC8 has gone - anybody round here get it?

Regards,

Ed
