Anybody here have an Emerson Custom?

I'm probably be going to stop buying productions and save up for a custom. I want a wave and bolstered CQC-12!!

i have a specwar CQC6, CQC8 zero bevel grind, and a "semi" custom, a ECA (emerson collectors association) P-Tac with a zero bevel grind, ernie ground the blade on the P-Tac but the handle is production, thus "semi".

emerson custom folders seem to be going up in price, a few yrs ago CQC8's were available for ~$750, most i have seen lately were more like $1200 and up, the CQC6 has always beenh pricey, $1500 or so, 3 yrs ago the ECA P-Tacs could be had for ~$200, last 1 i saw was $500, imho emerson customs are like a rolex watch, pricey but a good investment, there are only so many available/ever gonna be available, so imho the value will continue to go up, up, up.

of course ya can always buy one from ernie, the '6 runs ~$500 from him, of course the wait is +10 yrs lol.

i do know that my emerson customs are the high point of my collection for sure, i paid $700 for the '8 in '02, $1200 for the '6 in '03, and $200 for the P-Tac in '01, all good investments imho, also damn good edc knives by the way, the zero bevel grind has to be seen/felt to be believed ..........

i have seen pics of a custom bolstered '12 by the way, cool knife for sure, my fav of all would probably be the CQC6, its the knife that put ernie on the map, vipers are also very nice.

Actually you can't since he stopped taking orders in 2000. You can go to a large knife show where he brings along some customs for a lottery draw and if your name is drawn you can purchase a custom of your choice from what he has available for that show. That is a drivnig force behind the prices for his knives there is no way to get put on the list for a custom because the list is closed and has been for nearly 7 years now.

actually you can if ya are on the list, i am. IIRC mary told me i was one of the last ones if not the last one on it. i imagine it'll be a while lol.

I found a CQC15 for $1250 from MattDTactical if you are interested or if it is still there.

Very true but if he were already on the list he woulsdnt be asking the questions about buying one ;)

Congrats on getting on the list by the way!

:yeah i guess i shoulda added "if ya can get on the list" but figured WTF its pretty common knowledge that he isnt accepting any one else on it now thus the expensive customs, but hey my bad, thanks for the info on emerson customs, ya learn something new every day ya know. also mary told me that when he got some of the backlog cleared he was gonna start taking orders again, and the q' was does anyone have any customs, ,anyway like i said my bad, i dont know that anyone asked specifically about buying 1, did they??:jerkit:

I've got a CQC-6, Fixed Blade Spec War (the custom one not the Timberline one), zero ground Bullnose Karambit with Silver G-10 Scales (Silver Shadow), a Kandahar, and all of the ECA knives except for the Azek Marud (I AM LOOKING FOR ONE IF ANYONE HAS ONE THEY WANT TO GET RID OF). I have spent a fortune on this collection. It's the best investment you can make because Emerson's custom can only go up in value.

I just picked up a MV5(Viper5) and a Ernie Christmas titanium HD-5. Kind of a two for one this year. These are my first customs of this type. Both are fantastic! I had a custom CQC-10 about a year ago, but sadly let it go. I know...what was I thinking? I guess I wasn't, but I made up for it. The Viper was gotten at the Plaza show lottery and the HD-7 from the factory. Limited additions that Ernie put out for the holidays. Guess it was the last of his titanium he had in stock. Sure would have liked one of the 13's, but they sold within hours.

i would have liked to have gotten the '12 or '13 he had on the EKI site for $500 or so, or the HD7, good score for ya.

I picked this one up in a trade recently, the CQC-6. It is really an impressive folder. This one is waved and has the thick liner. It also has the zero grind and is as sharp as can be. The lock up is real solid, and the blade centering is just about dead perfect.

As nice as this one is, I'm letting it go to make room for a rarer Emerson piece that I like even better. So this one is on hold for a good friend.

Here is the piece that made me willing to let my CQC-6 go, the Viper MV-4. I was much more impressed with this one than I expected to be. The MV-4 feels real good in the hand, and it is the perfect size for an EDC. It is ground on both sides, with a zero edge on the right-hand side, and it is sharp as can be. This piece has the thick liner, and the lock up is perfect, though I forgot to take a picture of that.

Definitely my favorite Emerson that I have yet had the pleasure of handling.
