cut an empty bottle?

i overheard someone mentioned using free standing empty plastic pop bottle to test knife's sharpness. Did somebody try this at home ? how this supposed to be done?

u could also use paper.dont put any pressure and let is slide.
if it cuts easily,its sharp.i seen it at the home shopping
network for knife collections.lol

I have heard of this test, Just lightly run the blade on the bottle if it leaves an indent than its sharp. I would sudgest to you to use a Lucerne Milk Jug, should be alot found in Alberta.
