Cut deep by my own knife....Don't let this happen to you!

Man, that never feels good. Have a fast recovery. I saw your site for the first time today and was impressed. You will be getting a call soon. Take care, Jeff

You said you were lucky it didn't bit a half inch over. I guess a little luck goes a long way. Thanks for the reminder that knives can bite the user.

This is your first post? May your subsequent posts be less serious.

PS: Got a SBM on order and looking forward to it. But let that hand heal!

Stop when you get to bone.

I have always heard that a knife is not really yours until it kisses you.

I knew immediately that the cut was long and deep. I applied pressure and my wife drove me to the emergency room.

... but first, I stopped to take some pictures, cuz I knew it would make a *great* web page!

Did you really do that, or was that first picture faked up?

Aloha Ross,

Welcome to the forum, and best wishes for a speedy and healthy recovery. It's an honor to have you here --

I just wrapped mine up in gauze and duct tape.... doctors scare me...

Welcome to Blade Forums Ros, I hope you get well soon. How is the machette bussness doing for you?

Also what would be the best temper for a machette that will be used around a lot of bricks rocks and hidden farm equipment?

Thanks for all the kind words. I hope everyone is well.

Joel: That picture was taken right after the accident. My wife was near me when the belt broke. First thing I asked for was a tube of super glue and my camera! After looking at the depth of the injury, I realized that this cut was beyond super glue and tape. I snapped a few pictures using my left hand as my wife started up the truck to take me to the hospital.

Yoda4561, Ice pick grip with the edge facing you? Good for trapping and control but passing and defanging might be easier on your body! That cut must have hurt for a long time. How long did it take before you could use your hand without worrying about it opening up again?

Take care, stay safe.

Mahalo,
Ross

As knifemakers, we are constantly working with sharp or semi-sharp pieces of metal.Beyond that, the equipment we use are added danger areas ( Bandsaws, Grinders, buffers, etc.)This is a(painful) reminder to pay attention and to wear your protective shop gear (apron.goggles and ear protection).

Hi Ross, just caught your thread here and thought I'd wish you fast healing along with all the others.

Your SBM is still the sharpest blade in my chopping arsenel, and about the easiest to keep that way too!

Take care. Be careful!
