Cut in leather

First, let me say that I tried the search function, but just wasn't seeming to find the magic search terms to get results. If you're better at it than I, just give me some thread links! :)

Okay, I have not a split but a cut in the leather about halfway down the sheath. I didn't cut it, but it's in a place where it couldn't be under any stress, and it also looks too clean to be a split. I seem to recall that there's some "instant leather" type stuff you can get for small leather tears, but I can't remember what it is. Should I just glue it and polish over it, or what?
I also have some good leather places in town I could take it to, but I'd rather fix it myself if I can.
Thanks!

Experts? All my fixes are down and dirty and a lot of folks consider my methods too crude so I don't offer them.

Is it in the center of the recurve along the edge? If so, sounds like the khuk cut through from the inside. Make sure you repair the scabbard before the leather, otherwise it'll just come through again, possibly with harmful results.

There's a guy in Oklahoma who does some real dandy scabbard work at a very reasonable price. ;)

Actually, it's down from the curve a bit. It does start on the edge and wrap to the back, however the khuk has not cut through. The scabbard is intact, and the cut isn't in line with the direction of the edge. This was cut from the outside.

I'm afraid your wink is lost on me, raghorn. Who is this Oklahoman of which you speak? :)

That would be Terry Sisco and the Sarki Shop. Check the sig line on one of his posts, I think he has a link to his homepage there.

"Down and dirty" sounds like a description of Quackipuss.

Please clarify. Is he sticky too?

Terry

I thought pink Naugas of any sort were on the endangered species list let alone the rare and thought to be extinct metallic pink Naugas.

Depending on the cut, you may be able to sew it up. Get silk thread, beeswax, and leather needles at a sewing or crafts shop like Michael's, or A.C. Moore. I used that stuff for sewing patches on a leather jacket, and it's very strong.
If the cut is too big or ragged, maybe you can patch it with some scrap leather. Make sure you get a metal thimble for pushing through the leather. Once I slipped and the eye of the needle went into my thumb to the bone. Ow.
Oh, the beeswax is for waxing the thread so it slides through the leather more easily. You get a small chunk of it and run the thread through it, it cuts right into the wax. Then you're good to go.

Of course!!!! I mean after all the infamous Quackipuss keeps one legged* red headed dancing girls(And he keeps them in a pen. That's why they're "Down and dirty.")
Just in case you haven't figured out the why of that* it is because a two legged red headed dancing girl can out run a duck.
A one legged red headed dancing girl cannot.;)

I will be kind enough to leave it to your own imagination as to the whys Quackipuss is sticky.:p :p  :footinmou :o

Dayum!!!! That's maybe the 5th time I've heard about that this last month!!!!

Sure hope T-Bone don't gets in trouble with the Federal Boy's!!!! ;)

TSarki (Terry Sisco_) does exceptional work. You won't be disappointed! He redid some sheaths for me. The 15" sirupati had to be removed with industrial equipment and now it slides in/out real slick. He even replaced the leather. Real sharp!

I'm going to take a shot (per Terry's advice) on fixing this myself, as it is only a small cut. If I screw it up, then I'll send it his way and get it recovered. Thanks everyone!
