Seems like you just cut the top most layer of skin. I bet it feels like a popped blister. Glad you still have most of your thumb intact.
I guess you did great job sharpening it, I hate then this happens , had it few times myself.
I hate cutting my thumb then I can't flick my knives like I like to.
I ended up slicing myself good with my GB, it was like a 2inch gash on my left palm! I was in a hurry (big mistake) to cut off the end of a cable (cat5 patch cable snag proof hood) and I was holding the cable in my left hand. As I started slicing it went through teh shielding like butter and continued onto my hand. This was like 6 weeks ago.
I just saw a bright red opening on my hand and said in my mind "Oh Sh*t!", there was a customer in the room with me. Luckily she didn't see anything. I just made a tight fist, finished my job, and cleaned it up really well. No stiches thankfully.
THAT looks like a stinger to me. Use some Hydrogen Peroxide on it. Luckily, the pressure from me closing my fist stopped the bleeding. The cut was only like 1/8th of an inch on the meaty part of my palm. I felt nothing when it happened. That knife is a scalpel I tell you.
You must have though..."Is that my contact lens, or did my thumb just fall apart?"
i did something similar. i closed my military on my pinky and sliced off most of the tip. the bad part was that i had had a few bewskies at the time so my blood was thinned some so it bled and bled and bled. One of the more annoying knife injuries ive had. i still have only about a half of a finger print for that pinky. o well lol!::jerkit:
Those are the most annoying injuries because so many nerve endings are exposed and they are all super pissed off.
I chopped off the tip of my thumb down to the bone with a hatchet last year They sting a bit and take forever to heal.
My thumb hurts just thinking about that. Or maybe it's the cut. I'm interested to see how this one heals up, if there will be a slant in my thumb because of it.
There will be a slant for a little while. But then it'll bulge out and all you'll have is scar tissue. Plus, if you managed to hit really deep and take off the nerve, like I did, you'll have to deal with something similar to phantom limb pain as the nerve regrows, and that takes a long time.
