i just got my kershaw leek, and i was playing around with it and i pretty much tried to push the blade into the locking position with my thumb. so my thumb + cutting edge= a deep paper cut sized cut. it is only about 1/4 inch - 1/2 inch long, but my blade my have had wd-40 on it, or something similar. i was oiling it with nail gun oil, but it smelled like wd-40. whatever was in the oil did not smell health friendly. will my thumb get infected because of this oil? or will it just heal normal. this all happened yesterday if that helps.

WD40 will not case an infection, however other crud that was on your blade may.

the spring assist not working on yours? Trying to understand why you would have to push the blade into locked position.

oh and did you clean the cut yesterday when this happened? like rinse it at least?

As long as you've had your tetanus shot, I think you'll be alright by just cleaning it up with some soap and putting on a bandaid. If it starts throbbing and getting funky colors, it's doc time.

I'm befuddled. I can't imagine an instance when I would have to push the blade into the locked position with my thumb on the cutting edge. However, you should be fine as long as you've cleaned the cut properly.

WD-40?

Sorry dude. I hope you have your things in order.

You're going to die.

Of course, I'm not a doctor. Nor are most of the other members here! These fellers are great, but if I have a medical question, I ain't asking it here.

By the way, what was the edge angle on that knife? About 30 inclusive?

Here, with some medical advice. Yes, I am qualified to give it. You should be fine although you may need to work on how to handle your blade. if its a clean slice and you do whats below properly you will never it was there a week from now..

Do's :
-Wash it
-Use H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) or iodine (both will help prevent infections)
-Use some steri strips or butterfly bandages to close the gap. Slice wounds need to be keep approximated to heal properly, this will also help stop the bleeding if done right. In case you dont have some, get some you ll need them again at some point. To use: secure one side of the wound (laying the strip in a perpendicular fasion) then close the opening by pulling the secured side over and securing the other end of the strip to the other side of the wound. It's like make shiftt stiches.
-cover it a little but let some air it or it will stay too soft.

Dont:
-Use new skin or super glue..very bad idea ha
-Dont mess with it too much
-If it gets too bad (it will be obvious) first post a picture here i am sure i am not the only one that would want to see it, but then go see someone but it should not come to this unless your are immuno comp or immuno deficient in some way.

Haha i never thought i would be posting something like this on blade forums. Oh well

okay its now 2 days later and it has healed up pretty nicely. it was a very sharp knife so it should just reapir itself. i just wasnt paying attention and i was cleaning the knife and i opened it up half way on purpose, but there is a little non sharp area at the base of the blade when it is half open. i guess i aimed for that to pucsh it closed, but missed? i dont know. how ever it happened, it looks like it is healing nicely. thanks for the advice!!!
