Cut w/an Axis Lock Tip Up Carry?

Sure I've been cut by mine several times after it's been out of my pocket (due to user error).

But has anyone been cut because an Axis Lock opened in their pocket? I haven't. Seems to me that that would only happen if the pivot pin was set too loose.

Axis lock is the only folder I carry tip-up. No problems if pivot pin is properly adjusted, like you mentioned.

I got "bitten" by a 722 clipped inside right front jeans pocket. I was reaching into the pocket for my wallet and I must have dislodged the blade. The tip caused a rather nasty gash in my right index finger. I think it was my own ineptitude rather than the lock design.

I have no other problems with any of my other Axis locks.

got an axis AFCK, 2 710's, and NO probs w/opening in my pocket, it would be hard to make them do it imho, ya would have to hook the blade just right and w/enuff pressure, dont think it could be a prob if ya are in the least bit carefull, which ya should be - my D2 AFCK cut my best bud as he rubbed his finger across the edge to test the sharpness, drew blood, he said its the sharpest cutting instrument he's ever seen, sharper than a stright razor, cant wait till sat he's coming by and i'm gonna show him my new ralph mini maxx talonite, actually a little sharper than the AFCK, which is aying something imho - band aids are ready lol

If it really bothers you, get one of Mike Sastre's Pocket Savior sheaths, which hold the knife tip-down regardless of design. He just made one for me and like all his work, it's excellent.

Description here: http://rivercitysheaths.com/ours.html . No pics of it on the site but Mike can mail you a brochure that has one.

I've never had this problem with an Axis but have had it with lockbacks (pressure on the lock release) and liner locks (faulty/nonexistent detents).

Never had a problem with axis or any other tip-up blade. I carry it against the back seam ofthe pocket, though.

I'll second that. With the blade against the pocket seam, the tip will never have a chance to open into the hand's path.

Exactly my experience.

Mine rides against the seam on my right front pocket, and has never given me a problem.

I'm been carrying a BM705, then a BM940, daily since mid 1999 and I've never had this problem. I think the springs would have to be very weak, or there would have to be way too much tension on the pivot, for this to happen. Besides, I keep mine clipped at the back edge of the pocket, so the blade is actually between the pocket seam and the handle. In this position, I think it's as foolproof as you can get, short of a true lock that keeps the blade locked closed.

Tip Up with an Axis and several others, NEVER a problem.
Like one2gofst, CK and code 3 said - keep the blade against the pocket seam and life is good.

I've never had any problems with my Axis folders opening in my pocket, but I carry all my tip up folders against the seam of my pocket too.

Never cut, but my blue 940 is so smooth and slick that the blade has been jostled ajar in my pocket. Only once. And yes, the pivot is properly adjusted.

Good to see ya around, C-man! :)

My 705's thumbstuds will occasionally snag my pocket's edge on the draw when carried blade-facing-seam, and in effect act as an unintentional "wave" feature. I've always caught it in the act, and never have been cut (has happened maybe 2.3 times in 3 years of carry). My small Seb., God love it, is even more guilty of this though.

Professor.
