Cut your self with a sebenza while closed?

The ratio of blade to handle is so close. The tip and bottom of the blade closest to the pivot is so close to the edge on my 25. Not sure if this is the case on other sebenza models. Has anyone ever cut themselves while the knife was in the closed position?

It can be done on a Classic/21 as I have done it. I was turning the knife over in my hand as I was talking to someone and sliced the pad of my index finger when I slid it down the spine of the handle. That said, it isn't particularly easy to do and has only happened to me on that one occasion. I have heard of a couple of other people doing much the same though.

Yup, I've cut myself with a few open back knives. If you slide your hand just right, you cut the bunched up skin on your finger. It is not easy to do and the cut was pretty much like a paper cut. No big deal.

Not yet, but if more of the Insingo swedge stuck out of the handle I probably would all the time. That swedge is sharper than I thought it would be

Never happened to me. I have hear of it but, so far no blood here. I do carry a sebenza or umnumzaan eveyday.

I carry mine every day too and I cut the pad on the proximal phalanx of my right ring finger just by closing the blade fast. Havent yet run my finger across it yet though.

I never have when the knife has been closed, though I have heard of reports that it has happened. With the knife open, more times than I would like to admit.....lol.

No, of course I cheat and carry mine in a pocket sheath so I don't ever have to worry about that! :)

I cut myself with the tip of an umnumzaan. I was trying to see if the tip stuck out the back of the handle. It doesn't but is close and not to hard to get cut on.

Yep, happened to me with a Large Classic Ironwood that I used to have. Cut my thumb as I was clipping it in my right front pocket. I don't have it any longer to compare it to a 21, but I think the cutting edge was closer to the back to the handle slabs on some of the earlier Classics.

I've cut my finger on a closed Sebenza Classic when I reached in my pocket to grab it. Its possible, for me at least, to extrude by finger down between the scales and touch the sharp tip. The scales do not provide enough protection for that. But I cannot touch the tip of the blade on a closed Umnumzaan.

I have felt the edge a couple of times when fishing the knife out of my pocket, but no cuts. I am mindful of the possibility now and and careful about how I grip the knife to pick it up closed.

I've carried my new Umnumzaan for 4 days and have cut myself twice so far that way. Definitely more mindful now, which is taking some getting used to.

Its only a problem with the Zaan Model I agree. I had the same concern a while back and addressed the issue in a thread i started. After I sharpened the knife a couple times it was good to go!

I did it on my 25 once (only once). I was trying to move it further towards the seam of the pocket and my finger slid down the back of the handle and the pad of my index finger got a nice clean cut.
