I bought this Schatt & Morgan Wharncliffe Whittler with the intention of gifting it to someone special (when they're ready for it). Although I was expecting a high quality knife, I am more impressed with the knife than I had anticipated. It is not a vintage knife but it could easily be mistaken as one. It certainly has the charm of a vintage Wharncliffe whittler. It's a svelt 3" knife with thin blades that are razor sharp. True half stops on both of the small blades and a Queen-style "half pause" on the main blade. Split spring construction with excellent walk and talk. Sheffield jigged pearl. What a cutie (just like the person it is intended for).

Pearl is not my thing but that's a nice little knife.

Incredible. That one will be hard to give up -- must be someone very special.

I love the jigged pearl. I'm usually not much for the whittler configuration, simply because it's hard to pull off properly. Looks like they got that one down tight.
One question:

Do the blades snap?

Thank you, guys. Tom, All three blades snap. The pull on the main blade is about a 5 and the pull on the two small blades is about a 4. No gaps in the liners/springs.

That's a beauty. Queen really does this pattern well, like Case with their swayback jacks. I have a half-whittler version and it's a gem of a knife.

You should, you deserve it Jake. :D

Who's the lucky girl getting pearl? If it's your daughter, I understand fully. I am starting to set aside some knives for my little one. She has a 2010 forum knife (the year she was born) and an A.G. Russell toothpick. I want to get her a girl scout knife and when the time comes I'll let her pick out the SAK she wants. I'll probably give her the Burke whittler as well so she can wile away the time with dear old Dad.

Christian, It's for a close friend's little girl. She can have the whittler when I can no longer lift her up with one hand. ;) That's a nice collection you've got for your daughter.

Oh yeah, that is a sweet knife!
I've totally gone overboard on small pattern knives lately, so a Schatt and Morgan mini Congress in abalone just showed up at my door, beautiful knife.
Just when I thought I had settled on GEC along with Case for my collection, along comes Schatt and Morgan to sneak money out of my wallet.
And I've been wanting a traditional style wharncliffe whittler like that too... :D

Thank you, guys. Zippofan, There are a few different variations of the small Wharncliffe whittlers branded by Queen or Schatt & Morgan. They aren't recent production but they are still readily available. Schatt & Morgan also made larger Wharncliffe knives and I have my eye on one of them. The 4" series 18 "Dogleg Whittler" looks really nice but I've only seen photos of the knife.

Hi Jake -

That is a great knife! It is going to make someone very happy!

I don't believe I have seen a jigged pearl treatment before - very cool!

best
