I don't need a machete. Got no real use for a machete. But I'm obsessing like a mother over the Cutlass. Would love to see pics and hear stories from owners and users.

Agreed. I've looked at the cutlass before, and would love to see more photos and stories.

BRL, maybe we should both just give in and get the blades we've been obsessing over :P.

I'm gonna cheat a little.
:D

I've had a KaBar Cutlass for several years, and it has seen a lot of heavy use. So much that I have worn almost all of the finish off of the blade. It is one of my all-time favorite big knives. I own several Busse Battle Mistresses, and will say that the KaBar Cutlass will do pretty much everything they can do, but at about 1/8th of the price. It is one of the best "bang for the buck" knives I have ever owned. It has a great, comfy handle that you can work with for hours without getting sore hands, and you can chop through 2" thick green limbs with one whack, no problem.

I also have the kukri, and the cutlass is a much, much better balanced and handling knife. I can't recommend the cutlass highly enough. The steel is very tough, and holds a working edge a long time.

moonwilson, thanks for the review.

moose, thanks for the torture (haven't seen you mention the zombie-handled cutlass yet, which means upcoming contest??!? a possible hooray!)

Logan and Knifekid: no kidding :)

Agreed with you again man. That green cutlass is more interesting to me than the Kurki personally. Whats that for moose?

And also... I'm in no hurry to get mine, so don't feel too pressured, despite what everyone else says :P.

For the price, the Cutlass machete is awesome. I've used mine for chopping wood, downed limbs, limbing trees that I've cut down, and just cleared lots of weeds from the fence rows. Weeds were 4' or taller, next to the fence made the process more difficult. I'd hold a clump, and chop them near the ground. This job would dull the edge more than chopping wood. I also used my razor sharp ESEE Lite Machete, and it had a hard time cutting through such dense growth. Dulled it pretty fast as well.

At first, I was worried about the hollow grind, being the edge didn't have as much metal behind it. Those aren't worries at this point, it's a tough knife, I've spent hours using it pretty hard. The only complaint would be that the handle is a bit fat, I have short fingers. After long use, I start relaxing my grip and the handle allows for some rolling over. Although, bending over in the heat, face in the weeds for several hours, makes my whole being pretty tired. I can't say that my hand felt tired, maybe my whole arm, and maybe I'm just out of shape.
Here's a pic with the Cutlass next to a Junglas, an Ontario 12" Cutlass machete, and a 12" Culberson Bolok.. all have been used much more since I took this pic...

I've been using mine and taking pics along the way. Will get up a review thread pretty soon. I love mine. Great knife.
