Are any of the knives sold on this show worth buying from a collectibility standpoint, in terms of increasing in value? I'm new to the knife world, so pls. forgive me if this thread has been visited before. Thanks!

Is that the show that displays sets of knives constantly, all of which seem to be well under 10 US dollars per knife?

If so, I suggest that they are probably poor choices for investing with hopes of monetary gains. If OTOH you see something you like and would enjoy collecting for your own enjoyment, and perhaps display/handing down to others for similar purpose, then by all means, yes.

Many of the members here define "collect-ability" differently than my latter statement above. Truth is a collection is just that (a group of things). Value is perhaps too often gauged by money...sometimes value is what YOU hold. That said, buy what you like and enjoy it accordingly! If it makes you happy, and harms no one else, how can it be wrong?

If you`re referring to that TV "knife show" where they sell 48 knives for $129, or some ridiculous figure like that, all I can say is "Caveat Emptor"....most of them are sourced from Pakistan, India, & China. I saw one episode where the guy hawking the product took a sword and smacked it on the tabletop in front of him....the blade snapped in half, and the broken half lodged in his stomach....unfortunate for him, but I laughed my ass off anyway....

That ought to be all over Youtube if it aired on TV.

EDIT: LOL! Here it is!!!!!

Not from "Cutlerly Corner" though...surely to heavens there is not ANOTHER clip of a TV show sword salesman impaling himself on a breaking sword?

The truth is most of the stuff Cutlery Corner has up on air is low priced. But, if you look on their website you will find a lot of expensive knives as well. They sometimes put a higher priced knife up on air I believe, (in between the 100 piece junk sets) but I'd imagine you could find the higher priced items they carry cheaper else-where.

I have often wondered what happened to that guy? Colon re-section? Minor wound? .... it was really funny to watch but I've never stopped wondering about the fate of that poor hired geek.

Collecting as investment is iffie, at best. It's safe to assume than anything being sold as a "collectable" is a scam. Collectors' value of anything is a function of rarity, condition, and demand. Predicting future fashions well enough to know what will be in demand years from now is very difficult.

Personally, were I to invest in knives for future value, I would scurry around buying partial display cases of recently defunct quality American knifemakers. Shopkeepers who cannot restock will often sell the remaining stock and case at a loss to get rid of them. With patience, you should be able to complete the display, again, often at a substantial discount.

There are not a lot of these displays, anyway, and the attrition rare will be high as shopkeepers junk them as the stock is depleted. It's my guess that a mint condition complete display c.2000 from a quality American maker will bring a very high price in 40-50 years.
