Sorry I did try to google but I couldn't find exctly what im looking for...

What was the FIRST AMERICAN cutlery factory in American soil ?

sorry , I do not know much about knives...

seeing how I did no research,
Imma guess and say Case. They've been around since the 1800's, and are the oldest factory (i think. Don't hold me to it :))

I love Cattaraugus but do not own any knife or pocket knife.
I was thinking the other day about doing some search about Cattaraugus but , ner did.
Thanks for the info on that.

But my question still the same . I would like to know , just in one simple name who was the first to PRODUCE knives in US .
M.TEX

THANK YOU !

I guess this is the one .....or not ?

Henry Harrington, a New England craftsman and inventor, established the first cutlery company in the United States on June 18, 1818 in Southbridge, Massachusetts.

and Russell in 1832 ? if so why took so long ? I would guess someone ( maybe from Ingland ) would go to America and start a new business there....
or someone with $$$ would invest in cutlery to make a profit before someone across the pond start making big bucks...
for sure I would love to go back in time to buy something from the hands of these guys....

Immigrants from Sheffield,England played a major part in the early days of the American Knife Industry. Northfield Knife Co. was started around 1858 in Conneticut. David L. Anthony's books have a large amount of info on this subject. Case was a relative late comer. They didn't even make knives in the beginning. The earliest Case knives were made,on contract,by Charles Platts & Son.
