My buddy and I went into a local knife store this past Saturday. Store was setup nice-all cool stuff up front, some REAL cool stuff in the back. Everything was available to be played with, and the people were nice enough. Two people there, a man and a woman. Man was clearly new to the biz, most likely a part-timer. Lady was ok, for she held the keys to the cases.
My gripe is this...SHE KNEW NOTHING ABOUT KNIVES!!! And what she claimed as fact, was actually B.S. !!! Plus, her prices were outrageous.
My buddy purchase a Kershaw Speed-Safe piece there. Nice knife, wicked quick, but it came to $80 !!!! How the hell could she do crap like that! She made the bold claim, on how Kershaw was a Roles Royce company, how they stood by their product, then she yeld at him not to "jiggle" the blade side to side in the open position. And I meaned YELLED at him. She was like...Forty or so, we are in our twenties, and she yelled at him like we were kids. Some warranty-worried about blade play!
After he picked the piece he wanted-the one he played with I might add-she proceded to open her mouth, claiming how the internet was bad for the knife biz, and how in time, all big good companies, would pull dealerships away from internet related companies. Is there any truth to this? he then said that she could find pieces that were not readily available with ease. She said that the Osborne I was carrying, was not even available over the internet...
WHERE DID SHE THINK I GOT MINE!!! What's more, she had the nerve to charge DOUBLE for the Osborne with blue handle. Double what I payed for mine over the internet that is.
The final straw, I asked her about a knife I have bee searching for and she said that she had one in last week. REKAT POCKET HOBBIT...I just said Pocket Hobbit. She said sure...I can get anything....then she said..."Who makes that?"
Then, I took my leave. What an experience! How can this be? Is this common? Was this how things were before inernet?
