Cutting 1/4" 5160 on a bandsaw... Speed?
Kind of getting conflicting info on what speed and feed to use.
My assumption was always run slow.
Using M42 10-14vt blades on a 64 1/2" x 1/2" blade.
Website says this:
Remarks
•M-42 high speed steel tooth edge for durability•Designed to run at high speed•Run at twice the speed of carbon•Increased blade life lasts 10 times longer than carbon blades•General purpose hand-fed applications: Tool and die shops, Machine shops, Maintenance facilities•Applications: Carbon steels, Light alloy steels, Mold steels, Tool steels, Stainless steels, Sheet metal

Little help as there are around 12 large blades to cut.

Any variable speed porta-band won’t be outside of acceptable speeds for your task. Once you get cutting, you can adjust up/down based on your feel of how the blade is cutting your stock. Stay well lubed and pay attention to the feel of your feed & you will find a speed that matches with little effort.

Thank you... Have a tube O lube already ordered
Also have HF bandsaw (My last one gave up the ghost after 12yrs) bargain!
So is that the lowest speed on the HF bandsaw Mid or Fast?

Then I'm on the right track. Just a matter of feel for the feed.
Thanks Stacy

Feed pressure is what makes or breaks (literally) a metal bandsaw. Use a pusher block of wood and apply a nice even pressure. You can feel and hear when the cutting rate is right. Pushing harder just kills the blade and slows down the process. The other blade killer is trying to cut a curve. A slight curve will be OK, but a tight curve will destroy the blade and probably ruin other parts of the saw.
