Cutting ability of Emerson chisel grind

I recently got my first Emerson, a CQC-8, and I have to say WOW!! It slices like a demon. I haven't had any experience with chisel grinds before, and I couldn't find much info on how well Emerson's cut while I was researching them. It made me slightlly hesitant about getting one. But now that I've had mine for a little bit now, I can say that these things, or at least the 8, are mean slicers.

So if you're thinking about getting an Emerson, but aren't sure of the chisel grind, I say go for it. You won't be disappointed.

blades that are subjected to the most extreme cutting jobs are chisel-ground.

I had some hangups at first too, but now almost all I carry is emerson. My cqc8 was my first love, and it has been away for 6 months for a pimp job, I miss it so much but it's ready to come home.

One thing I love about Emerson knives, at least in my experience, is that they always come razor sharp out of the box. Most other companies are hit and miss when it comes to sharpness.

This is the reason I tried Emerson in the first place. On another board I just posted a simple topic "who makes the sharpest folders out of the box" and Emerson was the overwhelming response.

They definitely lived up to the hype for me. I've had 5 and they all make razors look dull.

IMO only my Super Karambit has a true chisel grind though, with one side of the blade being completely flat. I would describe the others as more of an asymmetrical edge.

Yes, a true zero chisel grind, needs to be experienced.
And a zero V grind is just as impressive.

If it weren't for Emerson I would likely never have experienced a chisel grind. I really like them and have been pondering a custom large knife with one now.

Whenever I see people put down Emerson for using the chisel grind I know right away they have never actually used one and are just trying to promote whatever their favorite brand is.

Agree. My next will be a 7, simply so I can get that zero chisel, baby!!! Stoked.

You gonna grind it to a zero yourself, or get someone else to do it? I've always wanted an Emerson custom, and would be happy either way, but would really want a zero ground edge, rather than one with a relief bevel. The one zero ground Emerson custom I've had the pleasure to handle made me weak in the knees.

Trudat.^
matg- Don't mess it up if you do it yourself. Really research this. You might want to have someone do the zero for you.
