Some time back there was a thread regarding what to use on a cutting
board to restore the finish and seal the surface. Can't find it using the search feature. Anyone?

I seem to remember that mineral oil was prominently mentioned. Some people advocated various vegetable oils, but it was pointed out that some can become rancid. I believe there was a mention of wax as well.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I do know a lot of people who use mineral oil to treat their cutting boards. Walt

I did some research into this on the net....
and basically found suggerstion to use paraffin wax and mineral oil.
People repsonded that it is much to wierd and too much trouble....
but in case you are interested....

get mineral oil and parafin wax (or votive candles)
heat the mineral oil and mix in about on quarter wax.
it will more or less disolve...
leaving a semisolid paste at room temperature
this can be applied to the cutting board....
the mineral oil will soak in and leave a thin film of wax on top
rub the was fim into the surface.
this wax is a much more durable barrier to liquids being absorbed into the board than is mineral oil by itself. (like wax paper)

If you have no patience for this....
use mineral oil and clean and oil more often.

Hi, Finally I found a question I can answer! I work at a cabinet shop and from time to time we get cutting boards, and we always use Jasco butcher block oil. All you have to do is wipe it on, wait, and wipe off the excess. I hope this helps you, good luck.
