i know there are skills to the abs cutting comp its not all just the knife
so what are the events and "form" to be used i did try the search but as for me always no page found
any help would be nice and by the way if you know any other cutting tricks please do tell
like the taking letters off newsprint without cutting all the way through
thanks
butch

I had one knife sharp enough to take ink of normal printer paper without going through. Didnt seem much magic to it other than having a very thin blade, thin bevel, and a good sharpener. After the HI this weekend, ill have a forge big enough to make bigger blades, after which im excited to make some big choppers, and would be interested in cutting tricks, as well!

it needs to be sharp, it's all you need there :)

Try the stuff in the events that you have seen published. Test your knife on the stuff that is cut in competition. Check and refine your edge as you experiement. Knowing what you have and what your blade is capable of doing. The only surprise you will get is the effect of the adrenalin rush...Take Care...ED

ooo thats not a problem i already have done that with a few of my smaller knives
what about the water bottles or the paper hanging by a paper clip is there a angle on the cut, should i be snapin my wrist during any of the cuts
i thought i heard some place about a snap cut working better on one of the tests

That's what was said at the Moran hammer in a few weeks ago in Maryland. They said that due to liability they would not sponsor any more cutting contests. I have not seen any mention of this on the ABS site yet.

It's true! No more ABS cutting comps! Straight from the president Joe Keesler during the saftey meeting before the comp. at Morans. :(

Some cuts require speed and others force...follow thru is very important as is the angle of your cut on certain things...ie.you dont want to cut free hanging rope straight across...more like a 45 degree .

There are also saftey issues that not a lot of people think about when doing these kinds of cuts. I think the number one thing is if you are right handed you should lead out with your right foot.. This is not archery this is cutting. If you cut with your right and lead out with your left you risk cuting your leg.
You cut your femoral artery and you can die within minutes.
Something to think about.
The knife should have a lanyard and you should wear saftey glasses too.
Have fun
