Cutting competition question

I enjoyed reading about the cutting comp. at the Blade show in Blade magazine this month. My question is what are you looking for as far as blade performance? What are the variables in blade desigh that make it cut rope and through soda cans? I know there is a thread asking about the Guild show cutting comp., but since were are on the subject how did that go?
