I'm considering buying a 12" metal shear like this:

I'm going back and forth on wether or not to purchase it. Does anyone know if you can make clean cuts on up to .06" G10 liner material with this type of shear? If so then it's an easy choice as that would make that process a lot cleaner and quicker for me in addition to the other uses I need it for. Thanks.

I don't think it would work very well. What's wrong with a saw?

Well I just figured it might be less messy, less loud, quicker and straighter cuts. I'm looking at possibly buying one of these shears so I thought I'd check and see if anyone uses it for G10. Right now I usually cut up batches of G10 liner and scale material with a wet tile saw. That works fine but I'm just curious if there's a better way. If I'm only doing a little bit of cutting I just use my portaband. I have limited space so every time I do cut it I have to set everything up and then take it down and clean up afterwards since I have to do it on my back porch where my kids like to play.

Thanks Mike. I'm glad to hear that this will work. Even if it didn't I would probably buy one anyway for other uses but this makes the decision a lot easier.

Maybe I'm weird, but I cut my G10 liner material with a razor blade. Thicker stuff I cut with a band saw.

Used to cut circuit board material down to size on a big hydraulic shear. it works fine, but keep in mind that there will be some fracturing of the material at the edges. You'll want to cut your pieces slightly oversized so that the difference won't be visible in the finished piece. Material thickness and shear goemetry will dictate how much bigger you need to cut the piece with the shear.

" some fracturing of the material at the edges " Are you sure the cracks are later ground away ?
