Hi
I just cut and ground my first blade out off S30V,this is the first time I have worked with this steel. My question is,when I cut it out on the metal cutting saw,the saw cuts it very fast and smooth with no hang ups,I use D2 most off the time and it seem to be much more harder to cut,why is S30V so easy to cut on the metal saw VS D2.
is it the difference in grain size?
Thanks

D2 is one of those steels, Nathan, that are very difficult to anneal. Thus, you seldom seem to get it fully soft from the vendor. It is often much slower to cut because of this, much like L6. That's my take on it, anyway.

It isn't the grain size but the size of the carbides. The benefit of the CPM steels is that the carbides are smaller and more uniformly distributed.
