Being able to make a cutting tool is near the top of my list in terms of importance. Lose your knife...

Never intended to make a video out of this as I was working on something else; had the footage so I put in the text and pics. Plan on making a video on basic cutting (and abrasive) tools over the summer. Peace, Chris

Here in north Missouri flint or chert is abundant. I often find sharp flakes just laying there.

I am always on the lookout for rocks like this, they are hard to come by in my area. Mostly sandstone around. I've had some luck in dry streambeds where other types of rocks have washed down and collected over the years.

Snap. My other place is in an area so rich in it they make houses, walls, all sorts from it. If I can't find a sharp bit just chucking one big old lump of it at another bit will yield loads.

Wow, lucky bastid! I wish we had that amount of chert/flint around here. I might be able to improve my next-to-nothing knapping skills.

There's guys up north here that feel the same way. Mebe it's because I grew up cutting myself on it I take it for granted [as kids the easiest way to get the chips was to stick a couple of rocks in an old pair of socks and whack 'em together], but it does seem strange to mail a Jiffy Bag of rocks to 'em.

Nice post. I need to watch it later when I have sound.

Where I live it's kind of a mixed bag. In my area I've yet to see any knappable rocks. Granted I haven't looked that hard. However, on the east side of the state, there's entire fields of obsidian.
