Cutting tool inventory

As much as I enjoy and respect Becker knives, there are some models which I doubt that I will ever buy. And some that I want more than one of, particularly the BK-2. Right now this is what I have for outdoor cutting tools, minus a trunk axe that I'm not going to bring in. The boss is away on a weekend conference so I am taking the opportunity to clean and oil the tools. Some of these have no practical use in wood processing. However, they made me feel safer in the bush in regard to predatory animals. A few were chosen for the boss to wear on a pistol belt also, when we pick mushrooms etc. Cutting tools come and go, but this is were I'm at right now.

I was just going through a box of machetes up in the attic, and I ran across a brand new Cold Steel similar to the one you have there. Yours looks well used, so I wonder if you could say a bit about it in the way of review.

BTW, your pic suffers from a lack of Combat Bowie. :D
Nice Brute though. thumper will be around soon to offer you a Machax for it. :p

ooh, folding khukri :)

i like the kopsis machete - that cold steel?

good bunch of kabar/beckers/etc there too :)

By George I believe that a review is possible.

Yes I have come within a hair of ordering a Combat Bowie, but saw the redundancy. I fool myself by saying that I have no rational need for one, then I buy a CS Rajah 2. So much for my being rational. :D

Upnorth, about that Swiss bayonet... did you happen to attempt to put an edge on it? And if you did try, how'd it work out?

I bought some of those for a project. I want to convert one into a Swiss Baselard style dagger. Wood handle, matching hilt & pommel, leather bound scabbard, the works. I haven't started on the project, but I'm wondering if this butter knife can be sharpened.

I got this thing many years ago buddy. Out of all the bayonets I had, this is the last one left. I used a hand drill with grinding stones to round off the muzzle ring that I cut off. Then because it was such a pig to sharpen, I also ran the grinding stones along the edge to hog it out a bit. Then hand sharpening. It's medium sharp and I gave up trying for more years ago. One of those experiments that got buried in a moving box and rarely saw the light of day.

Hm. Never expected to read that. If we ever meet, let's do it in a crowded public place.

Nice inventory, Upnorth.
One of my favorite mid-size folders, of which you seem to have a couple, is the Kershaw Junkyard Dog II. I think it would fit nicely in that line-up. If you like the handle style on those Sypderco folders you've love the JYD.

Actually that is a magnum kukri machete. I had one but got annoyed by the polypropalene handle. Really dug into my hand and transfered alot of vibration to the hand. I wish they put the kraton handle on they use on most of their machetes on it.

I love my kopis machete, I only regret not picking up another 1 or 2 while I still could.

Nice inventory. Whats that brown folder on the far left? I have one almost identical to that one that I found a while back but there is no manufactoring name on it. I took it camping once and batoned through several logs. I was pretty surprised at its durability. I've sharpened it down to a sharper angle for more detail work now that I have a couple of BK2's.

I had a JYD2 several years ago actualy and gave it away. Nothing wrong with the knife at all. I was just in one of my ''move on to the next knife'' fevers that hit me every now and then. I have an old pic somewhere with the JYD and some others jammed into a dead fall or the side of a tree or somesuch. I'll see if I can find it. The folders in the pic are actualy an old original large Manix and the newer Resilience, with a FFG Endura between them. :)

There, I found an old blurry pic of the JYD. This pic reminds me of a Ka-Bar Kukri that I also had at one time. Kind of wish that I kept that one.

Yes that handle is a hand eater without gloves.
