I have a chunk of silicon carbide. It is gorgeous and would make some awesome bolsters or inlays. Anyone know someplace I could send it to have it cut up into 1/8" or 3/32" pieces?? Thanks!!!

If there is someplace local that sells minerals and related things ("rock shop") they may be able to help. They often have a diamond saw for cutting open geodes and or cutting slabs of mineral specimens. If there are any in your area; you could check out a gem and mineral show; this would help you find someone who might do that kind of thing as a hobby (or if you can find one a gem and mineral society (the ones who put on those shows)).

6,
If its big enough that you can hold it by hand, take it to lowes, they have a diamond blade tile cutting wet saw, ask them if they would try to cut it for you, if it will cut, then you can go and rent a wet saw for a 1/2 day and cut it up yourself.
Just an idea.

L6Steel,
If I am correct silicon carbide is similar to carbide, which is used in cutting tools. It is harder than a diamond, meaning it will eat belts, drills and any other cutting tools, but it is very brittle. It can be chiped and broken easily so it might not make good bolsters. It would make great inlays or spacers, it you can break it to size.

No known carbide is close to diamond in hardness, cubic boron nitride comes closest.
